Think about it. Illegals come here to work. That means Americans are willing to hire them. Illegals then bring their family and extended family- wife, aunts, uncles, kids, sisters, brothers, etc. I live on the border amidst many drophouses, and the conditions - 15-40 to a house - are unreal. So if employers here HIRED AMERICANS, illegals wouldn't have a reason to stay, right? My aunt was working at a factory here and was fired after the higher-ups decided that illegal immigrant labor would be cheaper. Thankfully, they got busted a few months back for it, but many companies don't.

Many of them send much of their money back to Mexico anyway. Do you agree? What should be done?

Whoops, you're on tricky ground.

You are supposed to blame and hate the Mexicans and not notice the American Business interests who profit from the situation.

grumpy old man below tells us the unemployment rate in the US is low...

I am a man who desperately wants to make a decent living to support his family. My skills are excellent and up to date. I've had to go outside my city, and often outside my country to find work

The unemployment stats he relies on are, I believe, complexly constructed lies.

Many people who lost their jobs in thelast two downturns are struggling as I am, and finding jobs at sometimes only half our accustomed salaries.

This unemployment lie needs to get called out and really ragged on, because the people who keep claiming our economy is good are trusting lies to come to this conclusion.

I think that the children should be allowed to go to school and so forth even if they are illegal immigrants. I came to the USA when I was 4 years old. I was illegal for a long time, up until 7 years ago. I was able to go to college because of the AB540 law that stated that if you went to a high school for 3 years and/or graduated from a high school that you could go to a college and not have to pay non resident dues. This law is great and not a lot of immigrant parents/students know about this and let it get in the way of going to college. Children should not be punished for anything, neither should the parents. Immigrants provide a great resource to this economy. Without us, the economy might not be as thriving as it is now.

Those who exploit the illegals are just as guilty as the illegals themselves.
Those who choose not to enforce the immigration laws do not have our best interests in mind and are just as guilty as the illegals.
What should be done? How about enforcing the laws on the books. new legislation is moot if there is no enforcement.
Prosecution of the Feds who refuse to enforce the law is a good place to start IMHO.
Unfortunately, the agenda is NAU and not our best interest, and as such nothing will be done about the illegal problem except amnesty and the push for the the open border cheap labor superconstitutional unamerican NAU.

Yes. This would be a great tool and the laws are already on the book. Illegal employers should be put in prison. Illegals should be deported -- vigorously. Last year, illegals sent more money back to Mexico (16.6 BILLION US Dollars) than Mexico's revenue monies in oil! Illegal aliens are now the biggest gross national product in Mexico. No wonder the government encourages it.

Well, not only punishment from authorities but also consumers. The sad part is, most companies have figured out there is no longer brand loyalty. Sticking with one brand has been replaced by who can give it to me cheaper. So, as a consumer you need to stand up as well. If you see a company employing illegals or sponsored workers tell them you will not longer be a customer. Tell them you support Americans and American jobs. You have to hurt their bottom line before they will listen.

Yes, punishing employers will be the most effective way. Without jobs, illegal immigrants will leave. Living expenses are cheaper in South America.

Definitely heavy fines for employers of illegal aliens would work great.
Also, in our area, day workers congregate in specific locations to be hired by landscaping, construction people, etc. I think in order for them to have the privilege of congregating in such places, they should be forced to show citizenship papers of some kind.
One step towards identifying these people is, at this point, regardless of legal or illegal, is through the DMV with a picture ID card -- not driver's license -- for illegals.
And we should not as a country be made to care for the offspring of illegals who are born here. Those people chose to put their offspring in a terrible situation, and the kids should be deported with the parents, or adopted by legals living here

Would a company be punished if they didn't report all their income or pay all their taxes? If they embezzle funds? If they hired child labor? If they engaged in corporate espionage? Infringed on another company's patent or trademark rights? Certainly. So if they break the law by hiring illegal workers, they need to pay too.

Yes.

In the short term illegal immigrants pay into the Social Security system which is almost bankrupt.

They also provide recruits for the military.

The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act, or DREAM Act, is part of the stalled package of proposals that many in Congress are seeking to resurrect. The proposal, applicable to an estimated 750,000 undocumented residents of military age, stipulates that those who arrived in the United States before age 16, graduated from high school, and meet other qualifications could immediately enter the path to citizenship in exchange for at least two years' service in the armed forces.

Tancredo, Ron Paul, and Hunter have the most conservative voting records on immigration.

Of these three, Ron Paul has the best chance of winning the Primary election.

Ron Paul has stated that he wants very strong borders and he was appalled that our government had taken border guards off of our borders to send them to Iraq.
http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig8/haman3.html

This is his six point plan:
Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.
Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.
No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.
No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.
Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods.

VERY effective. the employers stop hiring illegals, and the incentive to come here dries up.

After that, all we would need is a government that doesn't encourage illegals to come, by giving out free education, health care, welfare, etc.

I have sympathy - for the American TAXPAYER, who is subsidizing this source of cheap labor.

I am not optimistic that our government will ever do what needs to be done, though. It's sad.
