Why go for traditional "white bread" American when you can go for a
multi-cultural wedding incorporating Nigerian and Puerto Rican/Caribbean traditions!

Have your bridesmaids dress in colorful Hispanic garb and have the groomsmen & ushers wear West African garb.

Find flowers and decorations in bright Carribean and African colors.

Food could be a mixture of both cultures. You may be vegetarians, but nothing's stopping you from using the seasonings, spices and other flavors from either culture.

Music? Wow! A blend of both traditions and throw in some good ole' Tex/Mex.

You have all sorts of ways to go for one heck of a wedding and party! Just don't do a "white bread American" wedding. You and your fiancee have such interesting cultural backgrounds and those traditions melded together would make for a fabulous wedding!

Where in Texas? If you're in the Austin area, you're in luck! There are lots of multi-cultural families and weddings here, and lots of the venues and wedding service providers are really helpful in incorporating elements of both traditions into your wedding. In fact, my guy and I are planning our own multi-cultural wedding in Austin right now (i'm american, he's Indian). It's actually pretty fun. We're non-religious, so we can do whatever we want for the ceremony. This means that we can take the Indian traditions we like and blend them with the American traditions we like. We're also vegetarian. Lots of the venues here have *plenty* of good veggie food, and you can have both veg and non-veg options at your reception. That shouldn't be a problem. I love the first poster's idea of wearing clothes from each culture. That will be an awesome wedding party! Make it unique, make it fun!

You can also do a google search on 'multi-cultural weddings' and gets lots of good ideas that way.

Good luck!

Surely, you have relatives on both sides who can help plan your wedding. Lots of people are vegetarians, so that is not a problem either. Get help from the people who know you and your future husband.
