I often hear people say - there is no eternal torment in hell... you are annihilated in the lake of fire...
"Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." Rev 20:14
But right before that passage, in Rev 20:10 it says...
"And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever."
So first off, why is "hades" thrown into the lake of fire... And also, is there any support that hell is not a place of eternal torment? (besides logic - which says no amount of finite sin is worth infinite punishment for eternity)

You are correct. And no, the lake of fire is not eternal torment as one of the responders says. The lake of fire obviously is not literal because death and hell are thrown into it. How can death which is not a tangible object be thrown into a literal lake of fire. You are correct in saying that it means that death will be no more. Revelation 21:4 says that "death will be no more". That is why there is no need for hell which is just the grave where we go when we die. As Psalm 37:29 adds, "(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it." If everyone understood these simple truths that would be a wonderful thing.

There will be gnashing of teeth, weeping and wailing. God made hell (the Lake of Fire) for Satan and his demons. God isn't willing that any man shall perish, but those who refuse Him will be sent there. Gehenna is another name for this hell. There will be out darkness, you will never see another human being ever again, yet - it will be extremely hot, unquenchable thirst. Death and Hades are the painful waiting until they are thrown into the Lake of fire. The Great White Thrown Judgement is the for the unbelievers. You will be in an immortal body, that has been resurrected, in everlasting torment.

Well, my first suggestion would be to avoid hell at all costs.
As for the logic: God will condemn who he will. If he's all powerful there isn't a thing I can do about it. Essentially, who is going to tell God he's being unfair?
The reconcilliation is this: As heaven is eternal life, so hell is eternal death. You can find this in secular texts too, like Dantes inferno. Sinners are mutillated and killed, then resurrected to die again. However, since they criticized dante, they most assuredly deserved it.
I hope to never find out the truth about hell, but that's just me.

The word "hell" is a mistranslation of the Hebrew and Greek words Sheol and Hades, respectively. These two words mean GRAVE. After the second death, GRAVE will be no more, since we will be living everlastingly.

You rely on logic and not God. God gave all a chance out of eternal hell. If you choose hell you get it. No parole no purgatory no second chances. Come to Jesus today before its too late. Rom 10:9-10. God doesn't want anyone to go to hel and paid the price for your salvation but he won't force you to take his path.
