So you do not know the down side about cats?
Firstly you surely realise that there are quite a few people who are allergic to cats. Some just get rashes but others get breathing problems which can be quite serious.
Some owners keep rediculous numbers of cats which invade other peoples gardens and do a lot of damage to plants and flower beds.
Some cats sit outside houses and make loud noises every night. Some cats get into other peoples houses and pee on everything and leave a very nasty smell.
I am sure there are many other reasons.
Just as some humans are nice and some can be downright awful so it it with cats, now and then you will come across a cat even cat lovers would struggle to like.
To hate cats is wrong? Did you not hate vegetables when you were young - what had they done to you? Lots of people hate different things.
To condemn people for having a legitimate opinion is much worse!!! That indicates a lack of understanding of simple human emotions and shows you suffer from intolerance.

Cats Are Very Territorial. That mans a cat feels a stranger has invaded his/her territory. In a case like that, a cat might be aggressive toward one cat -- usually the most easy-going -- but friendly to another. The time when problems crop up is when a new kitty arrives, a young kitten becomes a grownup cat, or the home cat looks out the window to see a strange cat in the yard -- the home cat may chase, ambush, hiss, and/or meow angrily. And it’s not just the boys. Girl cats can be just as infuriated by strangers.

I know people who say they hate Cats yet say they Love Tigers!!
I can't understand that at all, but that's people for you!
We use the word Hate so readily and judge all things on past experiences. It's wrong but we still do it!
Not all Cats are cold unfeeling creatures, mine are very loving and they never leave my house or garden, they like to spend time with my dog and are just as quick to obey a sit command as she is!
I love my Cats and my dogs and have always kept both but that doesn't mean I love every cat and dog.
There's a Labrador I hated not because it was a Labrador but because it was a viscious dog and attacked me! I've never met a Cat I hated but there have been plenty I disliked!
Like you I think Hate is too strong a word for the emotional response people feel but if thats the word they want to use who am I to tell them not to!

I love cats, i've got three.. all of different breeds and each give me something the other doesn't.
as far as people hating them and what not.. i think many things could factor that in...
- some people hate poop, don't like cleaning up after animals, or probably kids.
- some are really allergic to cats, i have really bad allergies myself and i could see why they'd hate them.. feeling like that all day is not cool at all!
- a bad experience maybe.. got scratched really badly by an evil cat, could've gotten bit.. anything.
- could've been in a relationship where the other person cared more about the cat than them.
- some people are super active and go away a lot, they want to dog instead, and thinks cats are a nu-sense!.
for someone who just simply hates them because they can.. kinda rude.. but oh well that's their choice right.
i can say i really HATE horses! I was bucked when i was little and there's a dumb b*tch i work with that can't stop talking about them, really makes me not like them even more!
each to their own i guess!

Cats are fantastic creatures. So selfish, and independant... and have a horrible attitude towards everything you do. They even sit on you work if you're giving it too much attention.
I think they are the funniest animals in the world to watch. But, in some rare cases, they can be so loveable and so comforting to have around.
Picture this- you've had a long hard day at work, and come home to an empty house, with nothing there for you. You have tax forms to fill out until late, and all your friends are out doing something without you. Then, when you go to bed, your cat curls up beside you, and falls asleep. THAT makes your whole day better.
But then again... Dogs can do neat tricks.

I must say I dont like cats, cant say I hate them as such as hate is a strong word and I would never see any harm come to one, but I really do not like them. We have a problem with them big time where I live. There are about 20 of them in my road and they keep messing in my garden (lawn aswell as soil) which is not nice when I have kids staying. If I had a dog and it did that I would get fined for it because it is classed as dangerous in that diseases can be passed to kids. They also rip up my bin bags despite me putting down repellent and spend hours howling and fighting each night! Okay, so not all cats are the same and some are cute, but for the above reasons, they just dont do it for me im afraid.

I too used to be one of those people that didn't like cats. I always had dogs.
Last year we were looking for a pet and didn't want a cat because they always seem to not want to have anything to do with you, no play and stand offish.
Our friend called to tell us that a kitten wondered by them and wondered if we would like her.
We were both very nervous and went to go check her out. So tiny, so fuzzy, and so darn cute.
We thought we would break her or something with her being so small.
She became our little kid. We all played together with the cat toys and made sure she was always out of harms way, had toys and always paid attention to her.
A year later we are still all playing together. Scrappy loved to "help me" do the wash and wants to know where we are and we are always checking on her and we are now three peas in a pod.
Scrappy loves messing with my hubby first thing in the morning (I think she knows he is not a morning person). Wrapping her paws around his ankles and wanting to play. She always gets a smile out of him every morning.
I think what it is, is people don't really understand cats. I know I didn't and I would get another cat before a dog (still cute), but much easier to handle and live with.
We always interact with our cat and there are some that don't so the cat just gets used to being on his own.
I would say you have to have one in your family to really understand a cat...Scrappy is a cat that is so much apart of our family and brings us great joy, she has one heck of a sense of humor and always is thinking of myself or hubby.
Heck my cat even tucks me in at night awwwwwwwww.
Yes I was a former cat hater...but now I love my fuzz ball to pieces!!!!

I agree with you, both of us (hubby and I) love cats and to say they don't show affection is a just plain silly thing to say, they do show affection all the time. People that go ape about cats bringing in birds and mice in aren't getting it, I know it isn't very nice, but that is what the cat is doing, just that, showing love and affection. They curl up and purr like trains on your lap, they show their love all the while. They bury their poops and don't mess up the pavements (sidewalks) with great lumps of it. Don't get me wrong, I like dogs, they just don't fit into our lifestyle. Now I can't even have a cat, because we spend a lot of time in the US and it isn't fair to have one knowing we will be away months at a time.
BTW our daughter, is allergic to cats, she has two.. They spend a lot of time outside and she is OK as long as they don't get too near her she and her children love their two cats.

I love cats! I have two of my own. I think people who strongly dislike cats don't like them because they've had a bad experience with them, or are under the assumption that they smell and pee all over. I could say the same about dogs. I've had some bad (pretty bad) experiences with dogs, and when they breath their smelly dog breath all over you when you're trying to eat...yuck! Yet, I don't say I hate dogs. I just say they're not my favorite and I prefer cats over them.

Some people just don't understand cats. They think they are nasty and sneaky and don't trust them. I was never a cat person until when I was in my teens my parents would not let me get a dog. I was allowed a cat and have been a cat person ever since (about 20 years now). My last cat was nasty but I never hated cats because of her disposition. All cats are different but they are no different than dogs in that you can get a really nice Lab who looks all happy and smiley, or you can get a pit bull who gets loose, terrorized the neighborhood, and ultimately mauls a little kid. I've never heard of ANY cat doing that unless it was a mountain lion. Dogs do not always make better pets. Cats are self sufficient. You don't need to walk them in bad weather. You can train them just as easily as a dog (I know, I've trained my cat to walk and stay on a leash outside rather than allowing him to roam the neighborhood). People assume cats are stupid and untrainable. Not true, and I've seen some people have to take their dogs to obediance school because they could not be trained. All pets...dogs, cats, birds, etc...have their faults and not all breeds are "pleasant". The cat I have now is a beauty and a pleasure to be around. It just depends on the animal. Oh, by the way. That old wives tale of cats taking children's breath in their sleep is not true either. I had my son and my cat was about 8 years old. She didn't want ANYTHING to do with him and made sure she was NEVER near him, much less ever jump in his crib. That is a falisy. But what about dogs who maul kids and adults?
