Ducks weren't doing anything. Two officers came out for a smoke break and peppered the ducks for the heck of it. Two women saw them do it and reported them. The women said the officers were laughing afterwards. Cruelty to animals ? You bet.

I think they're jerks and they should lose their jobs. It never ceases to amaze me how cops think they're ABOVE the law.

An officer that would exhibit such brazen cruelty to animals would also dehumanize suspects. They should be suspended and retrained. There is also the issue of danger to others in the area. Pepper spray can travel a long way and could have burned the eyes of a child.

I am confident that this is an isolated incident and is not indicative of the behavior of police officers in general.

If the people being dealt with are causing some sort of disturbance or disruption (i.e. blocking a street or building or threatening others) then the Officer may order them to move. If the people continue to cause the disturbance then the Officer may use pepper spray to stop the disturbance and restore peace. You don't say what the people are doing but I really doubt they were standing in the produce isle looking over the bananas when he ordered them to move.

I'm glad the women reported it because it's cruelty against animals and against the law. I hope their fellow officers wrote them up and that they get punished for it.

I hope they're suspended without pay while the charges against them are pending in the court. THAT ought to teach them to quit harassing harmless animals and to obey the law.

Maybe the ducks were taunting them and the witnesses didn't see that part. Ducks can be real jerks sometimes with their "quackety-quack" all the time.

A verbal warning from the chief and a day off.

Hey....cops do stupid stuff too. A few days off without pay usually cures them of doing stupid things like that.
