Stop paying so much attention to the sound. You only notice it because you are so focused on it. Stop making such a big deal out of it and it will no longer bother you so much.

Relax and inhale and exhale fully.
Have empathy and compassion and humor.
She needs those nails to feel desireable.
Tell her what nice nails she has, and colors.
Then other things you like.
Ask her an interrupting, important, sincere, and interesting question whenever she starts to tap.
House lights dim keyboard is in the limelight.
Imagine those nails jumping off her fingers while she types, scurrying behind the keyboard to change costumes and put on high-heeled tap shoes, and then rushing onto the desk. The last one out realizes she forgot to change her Nine-Inch Nails World Tour tee shirt. She exits right then bounds back out into formation. Lights, music, smiles, they open with a singing, tapping, high-kicking chorus line number.
Next is the Dueling Banjos number from the 1970s low budget "B" movie "Deliverance" .
Then more battle-of-the-tappers improvisations, call and response style, the nails versus the keys.
Intermittently the music stops. A pair of nails will step downstage exchange a few words, vaudville/repartee-style. the other girls giggle.
Write a storyboard, gather the talent and equipment, shoot the video. Soon, you rise above all cubicles, will be much happier as a producer.
Hire that girl as a secretary or receptionist. She inspired you to achieve this success. Prohibit tapping, smoking, humming, whistling, all non-human pets, and eating in your studio, office, and waiting room.
We are all one.
Butterfly effect.

It's probably not "typing loudly" that is getting on your nerves; the keyboard determine the amount of noise that comes from the keys. I think it's probably the CLICKING of those fingernails that's echoing around you. Ask the woman if she has any idea how much those things annoy other employees? Most people aren't as effecient if they have long nails because they tend to cause typing errors. You can always suggest she put duct tape over her nails to help control the noise. Maybe that would give her a hint.

Hmm...yeah, try a noise machine or something...these are things that you really can't change in a person. While I don't have long fake nails, I do pound on the keyboard something fierce at around 90-100 wpm. I just can't help it!

fake nails on a keyboard can be very loud . . . I teach a laptop course and this student was making so much noise typing with her fake nails and so fast on the board students could not listen to the lecture. It's not "your problem only" if it is disruptive, I had to deal with it because it was so intrusive.

It probably does just irritate you. There are a lot of sounds in my office and at home that really annoy me, too, but when I ask around, no one else has ever even noticec them, let alone been bothered by them.
Can you have a radio, CD player, or iPod at your desk? Maybe you can drown out the noise, or at least distract yourself from it.

This is YOUR problem apparently, unless groups are forming in protest of this person. You need to get a grip and get over it. We are humans and can control an amazing amount of things in our environment. I think you have let this sound become a real issue with you, and it is blown out of all proportion. (A bit lit OCD, actually). Try to rationalize why you are even concerned and unable to deal with the noise. If you can't work it out, get some professional help.

when she is in the middle of a typing episode ask your manager/supervisor/boss into your cubicle to discuss something....while he/she is in there, make a show of being disturbed by the noise but don't address the problem directly. pretend you didn't hear something he/she said and roll your eyes toward the offender as you ask them to repeat themselves...you could even suggest moving locations to continue the chat where you can hear better...this way you have not "complained" or "ratted" but the problem has been brought to a superior's attention.
another option would be to have a friend call the company anonymously and ask why they put the phones near machinery that makes it impossible to hear....(tongue in cheek here). have them say they were talking to you and you could not continue the conversation as the noise of whatever machinery was clacking in the background made it impossible for you to hear
good luck!
