My advice: Weight Watchers! I am 23 and have struggled with my weight for years. A constant fluctuation that resulted in nothing but frustration. I've been on WW on and off for the past year and a half, and I'm down 30 pounds (but the actual 30 pound loss only took me about 6-8 months). I went off during the summer but then I got engaged, and so now I'm back on to take off the last 10-15 pounds. It's the only thing I've ever tried that gave me results without making me feel like 'that girl' who is constantly talking about calories and fat. WW taught me how to eat as a lifestyle, and now I actually *enjoy* things like whole grains and veggies. If you want to slim down, this is the way to go -- I promise that as long as you follow the points and exercise, you won't be sorry!!!!

P.S. You *will* be able to tell that you've lost weight when you get your dress. Just be sure to buy a dress for the size you are, not what you hope to be. As time goes on and you go for each fitting, the bridal shop will take your measurements and can continue to take the dress in as you lose weight. It's a lot easier/cheaper to take in a dress at the last minute than it is to let it out.

I am just starting to try to lose weight. My wedding is in 7 months so I have a bit of time, I'm planning on watching what I eat - 5 to 6 smaller meals a day, cardio and lifting weights. My HTB thinks I am beautiful now but I want to feel a bit better about how I look.

While I'm not getting married soon, I am in the weight loss process right now. No matter what plan you use, the bottom line is the same- you have to burn more calories than you consume.

I am on the volumetrics plan right now (it's a book, easy to find on amazon or major bookstores) and it's so simple. I've lost 12.5 pounds in one month! The book helps you calculate how many calories YOU need to maintain weight, and how many you need to eat to lose weight (500 less than maintaining, unless you want to lose alot, then it's 1000 less).

Best of all, you don't have to cut anything out- the key is moderation. I still eat chips, popcorn, cake, sweets, etc. The key is knowing how many calories are in one serving, controling your portions, and not filling up on junk. I have cut regular soda from my diet, but I still have dieat coke. Most of the time when I eat chips I use the 100 calorie packs, I think they're by nabisco. If you're unsure of how to start, a simple rule i picked up is whenever you eat, fill half your plate with veggies, 1/4 with meat or protein, and 1/4 with wheat/grains, etc. Even fast food isn't out of the question, if you know what to eat (warning: fast food and restaurant salads have alot of hidden calories). For example, at chickfila I get the chargrilled sandwich, side salad with croutons and light italian dressing, and a diet coke. It's under 500 calories and 10 g of fat, great for my meal portions.

I've been on weight watchers for about 2 months now. I've lost 12 pounds so far. Its healthy and its a manageable lifestyle change that I can stick with. Before I started weight watchers, I was dieting on my own and I had only lost about 3 pounds (I guess that's 15 pounds total). It was a lot harder not really knowing if I was doing it right or not, and not really knowing what kind of results to expect. I highly reccommend it, even if you don't have much weight to lose. They've also redesigned it to be customized for men. I like that I can eat whatever I want as long as I keep track of it and stay within my daily points allowance. Its totally flexible and manageable. My advice would be for you to find something you can stick to. Something you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life, and make sure you have the support to succeed. Whether that means joining a gym or a bicycling club in your city or starting a healthier way of eating that you can stick to, find something that isn't going to be unrealistic for you to manage.

I did not try to lose weight for the "big day". I know that my hubby loves me for who I AM - not for how skinny I can be.

Besides, in that big dress, no one can REALLY tell if you had lost a few pounds.

Don't add to the stress by trying to lose weight. It will only create more problems... like last minute dress fittings. What if you lose too much and the dress is huge? Or what if you don't lose enough and the dress is too small to be altered?

There have been many girls on here a week or two before the wedding totally freaking out because they got a dress in a size too small because they wanted to lose wieght to fit into it. But they didn't. And now the dress can't be let out enough. Or they lost too much weight and now the dress is so big needs costly alterations.

Just maintain your weight, eat healthy, and don't focus on losing weight. Your groom will still love you just as much, and no one else will think a thing about it.

Don't add unneccessary stress!!!!!

Added: If you are obese and need to lose weight in general to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Concentrate on THAT. Not on doing it for the wedding.

I already ordered my dress, and I'm not really trying to lose weight so much as just maintain where I'm at (I managed to slim down 15 lb. over the last year or so, so I'm really happy where I'm at). But I have just been adding lifting free weights 3-4 times a week, and doing ab/leg exercises and walking for an hour 3 times a week around my neighborhood.
My fiance has set up a workout routine with one of his roommates, and a few of my bridesmaids have started a workout routine. Seems like our wedding is inspiring a mass-health kick...which is good for all of us!
Good luck everyone!

I just got engaged this past weekend and will be getting married the weekend before you, so I just started the process. I am not necessarily in it to lose weight, but to tone up more so. I know my future husband thinks I look perfect, but I want to think that i looked my best on my wedding day.

I have started by of course, returning to the gym about four times per week. I have limited what I eat, but not by too much. I am just more careful about portion size than anything else. It has been really nice because my fiance and i actually work out together by jogging around base (He is in the air force) so that way, we will both look our best when that big day comes.

I work out regularly. I started about a year ago and lost and have kept off 12 lbs. MY wedding is July 08. So I will continue your routine.
Best advice: eat 5 to 6 small meals a day. cut out sugars, soda, fatty foods, etc. allow yourself to cheat on the weekends with whateve ryou want. cardio 3 or 4 times a week for 45 minutes.
the weight will come off ridiculously fast if you do this.

honestly.. i bought my dress 4 months before my fitting.. went for my first fitting.. it was tight.. ugh..

so since then i have lost a few lbs.. more inches than lbs tho.. just by eating around 1000 calories a day.. cutting out sugar and watching carbs.. and i have been working out with weights to tone up and doing push ups against a wall (it works the back of your arms very well if you angle yourself right) and doing crunches religiously.. all of this obviously why i am losing inches as opposed to lbs.. i am gaining muscle back..

i would say strict diet.. drink a TON of water.. walking helps a lot.. and crunches will slim you down REAL quick.. ive been doing 100 when i get up in the morning before work and 100 when i get home after.. this has been a month and ive already gone down two belt loops..

good luck!!

I walk the longest distance possible from parking my car to arriving at the building of my destination and try to stay active throughout the day. I've stopped eating sugars and eat more protein (especially soy protein). I'm trying to drink more water (having one of those big Nalgene bottles helps you monitor this more efficiently) and cutting way back on alcohol (especially beer, though if you must have it, Rock Green Light or Michelob Ultra Amber are your best bets).
