Some people are intimidated or just plain loathe machines so forgive them. If telemarketers get a machine they hang up and try back - especially the automated ones. So do survey takers, charity solicitors, etc. Your best bet would be to get a caller ID service and telephone so you can find out who is calling you. Of course they are not infallible as people can have a privacy flag on and numbers used by telemarketers and the like are also not displayed. I wouldn't stress over it but rather be thankful that I didn't have to answer the telephone and listen to some pitch. The caller hanging up saved me the effort to do so. If it was a friend and you really hate that they didn't leave a message, tell them how you feel and ask them in future to do so.

absolutely not....one time i was stranded an hour away from home with a broken car...i was using a phone booth so i could not even have anyone call me back...the first three calls i made were to phones where noone was home...i did not leave a message as there was no way for them to call me back where i was. however it was very important as it was the middle of winter and i had the kids with me but there was just no sense in leaving a message...i just kept trying until i got ahold of someone who could help me

I feel exactly the same way you do. I figure it must be a salesperson if someone does not leave a voice mail message.
My sister or a Friend will call sometimes just to say hi and if I don't answer won't leave a message because he or she is going to be leaving soon and will catch up with me later. That I don't mind.

Yes, I do. If you do not leave a message, it obviously was not very important.
I usually call once and don't leave a message, wait a little while and call again, and leave a message that time if no one answers. Some people are just too glued to their phones.

Well, you can look at it 2 ways:
1) If the caller didn't leave a message, it must not have been important.
2) It was so important, that the caller needed to seek other alternatives and didn't have a moment to waste leaving a message for someone who obviously couldn't help them.

I hate those dang machines. I don't leave messages most of the time, even if the call I'm making is an important one.
Therefore, I don't consider other people's calls to me as unimportant if they dont use my machine, either.

Yes. If I'm not there and there's no message, I assume it must not be important. I only call back if I feel like it and am not annoyed.

i do too!!! I always leave a message, even if it is a short one. I'll usually say: Hi I called. You weren't home, I know this, call me back," Or " I called, here is why i called, ( insert reason) and U weren't home, so i left a message." Short and sweet. I have the no-message- leavers.

It all depends,
with my family if i call them and they call me, no need for messages we just return each others calls, a missed call is a signal for saying call me back
other unknown numbers, acquaintances and business calls need to leave a message or they will not hear from me.

I never leave a message, not even if it's important, those answering machines make me uncomfortable.
