Many people I have nursed that have had the most horrific diseases believe in God. It does not seem to stop their beliefs. Instead of them focusing on "If there was a God he'd never let us suffer this way"...they tend to draw comfort and peace from their beliefs and this seems to some how help them.
I can only guess that the McCanns are focusing on the fact that God loves them and will help them find Madelaine one way or another.

Because the God of the Bible doesn't say that bad things won't happen, in fact it's clear that they do and they will. If anyone believed in a God who said life will be sweetness and light, I wouldn't trust their religious viewpoint as it does not correspond to reality.
Faith in God is important at these times. I wonder how I got through some of the bad things I endured before I knew Jesus. Now, although it's still not easy, I can be assured that all things are in his hands and that's a great comfort.

The answer is: there are no gods, but the McCanns find solace in believing in something, it gives them some sort of peace.
God had nothing to do with it, and, if he did, he would still do nothing, anyway he cannot, because he doesn`t exist.

Lot of people are dead or living in terror, so I guess that means no one should believe in god... or was that your point?

It's better than believing in nothing at all. If they don't have faith that their little girl will be returned to them, they have nothing left but fear. Fear clouds judgement and allows too many things to eat away at the soul. I imagine it is taking a great deal of faith, these days, for them to continue believing.
Also, it wasn't GOD who did this, it was MAN.

There is a remote possibility she has been taken by someone who already loves her unconditionally and would never dream of leaving her alone - a family unable to have their own children possibly.
I have to concede that its a very very remote possibility though.

I've wondered about this too, and for the life of me can't come up with a sensible answer. I can't see how they can continue to worship a god that has allowed this to be done to their child.

What does believing in God have to do with the fact that their daughter is missing? I honestly don't understand your connection.
