Amusingly worded. But despite your (and my) non-belief there are actually things to learn about theology. While a god may not exist, the religions, as institutions, do.

Not necessarily. A Doctorate in Theology might be in comparative religion, or even philosophy of religion, and have little to do with what the doctor himself believes. In fact, I would imagine that many of them are atheists, having studied the questions of theology that closely.

Besides, I am unaware of any institution that offers a master's degree in ignorance. They probably offer master's degrees to rather ignorant people on occasion, but that's not the same thing.

P.S. To BioRed: yes, we are aware that there is such a thing as faith. That's what is so frightening! And Bill Gates may or may not be the sort of Christian you are. That's his thing, and none of my concern.

I think the PHD trumps the masters. A PHD in theology is what they give people with a masters in ignorance after they take a few more classes.

A PhD in Theology is a Doctorate for quickly hashed answers and many hours spent down the pub, heavily intoxicated.

That said, apparently there is quite a bit of history involved. I very much doubt that there could be enough content to justify the title otherwise.

You have a Barely Adequate degree in Philosophy, that qualifies you for a good job if you cn remember the phrase "Would you like to Supersize that order?" As for your MS that is the Supersize of the BA. Let him who is without stupidity cast the first Sheepskin! Boy that was easy!

I know your probably an intelligent individual which is why you refuse to believe in things that have no factual basis, but there is such a thing as FAITH, which means feeling and believing in things you can't see. Just because you don't have it doesn't mean you have to insult the intelligence of those who do. There is NO correlation between religious beliefs and intelligence. Bill Gates is a Christian, are you smarter than him.

Studying the nuts and bolts of religious beliefs -- the cultures in which the religions arose, what influenced the religions to form the way they did, and so on -- is completely different from blindly *believing* what those religions teach. So, no, I don't equate it with ignorance at all.

No-one says you have to BELIEVE anything to get a PhD in Theology.

The M.A. or M.Sc. of Ignorance is a prerequisite to the B.A. (Theology) degree.
