A woman that killed her four children said that they would be better off in Heaven. Do you believe that those children have a free pass to heaven due to their mother's actions?

If you believe that getting into heaven is the ultimate goal and the best thing you can help your loved ones to achieve, do the ends justify the means? Is this something that brings you comfort, or is it something that repulses you?

bgee2001ca, since when was it classless to ask how people feel about an event. If anything, it shows that despite religious belief we can all say that such actions are wrong, and religious belief is not an excuse for them. Please get over the persecution complex. The religion isn't on trial in this question, it's the woman's actions and excuse that are in question.

I am repulsed, scared, and terrified that a mother can do that. But I am not surprised. We won't ever know what was going on in that mother's eyes.
But a mother is supposed to protect her children. And she failed at that. I would guess that there are some serious mental problems with that mother.
And I am not taking her side, but there is another side to that. Did anyone not notice that there was something wrong? Her husband, her friends, the members of her church, or even the children's teachers... there were so many other people involved in that mothers life. Surely, someone must have noticed that she seemed depressed, confused, crazy?
Why did that mother not get the mental help she needed? Did she not know it was available? Did someone miss the signs and not offer it to her?
I don't think that the ends justify the means. Four children are dead. Yes, I do believe that they are in heaven, but their life here on earth was cut tragically short. And that is wrong, no matter what your beliefs are.

Well, I don't believe in Heaven. But, if I did, I still believe that the end does not always justify the means. As imperfect beings, we do not have the right to take away another's free will. Even if there was a Heaven, and she had sent her kids to a place of everlasting peace and goodness, it would not justify her actions because she does not have the ability to decide without doubt that killing her kids is the right decision.

It repulses me when someone thinks, due to their illness (and they always seem to have a name for it).......that they can take matters into their own hands.
But yes, those poor children I hope are in heaven where they are loved.
The mother will have to wonder about the sin she did.
As a confirmed atheist and father, what are your thoughts?
The reason I ask is:
I feel some of these Christians on this forum think the worse of atheist, as if they are walking murderers, etc.
And also, are your questions towards a certain group........(as you are referring to Heaven in your question).
I just wanted to know if your truely asking a thoughtful question or if you were slamming some people?
I'm respectfully asking ;)

It absolutely disgusts me. And, honestly, makes me think that the woman just doesn't want to deal with the responsibility of the children (I mean, come on... WHY have kids in the first place if you think they would be better off elsewhere???)
As for this question being hurtful, hateful, etc.... I don't agree. It is society that forms our morals within society and in order for that to happen, these types of things need to be discussed and confronted on a societal level in order for others to realize that, yes, this is wrong - no matter what your personal reasons are. There is nothing hateful about the question itself... what I find to be thoughtless are the people who would actually stand up for a woman like this, support her ideas even if not her actions and those who try to keep things like this quiet because they can't deal with how others are going to react to it.

Her actions repulsed me. The ends sometimes justify the means, but not in this case. But at least her children don't have to suffer any more...whether there's a heaven or not. If they had lived, they might have turned out just as nuts as their mother.
If there is a heaven, those children are there.

Any time someone can do such terrible harm to a child - physical or psychological - I am deeply disturbed. When they try to make themselves feel better about it by claiming something like "They'll be better off in heaven" I just hope they don't let that get in the way of their languishing in a personal hell each and every day thinking of the horrors they put the children through. I don't want "heaven" to make any sick child killers feel better.
At least none of them grew up, realized they were gay, and then killed themselves after being forced into "reparative therapy." Sorry folks, that one is worse.

My idea of heaven is not the normal view, that said I think just about everyone goes to heaven unless they choose not to. Do I see it as the "ultimate goal"? no. It breaks my heart that those lives were cut short and that this woman didn't receive the psychological help she needed before it was too late.

All I understand is that everyone comes here to fulfill his/her task in life and without doing that there is no place for you in heaven or in hell. Karma is as important as it is to go to heaven. And if you die before completing your Karma...you have to take birth again on earth...so actually the mother of the 4 children has not helped them at all... now they will have to go through the entire process of birth and death all over again. I believe that everyone should fulfill their work on earth in a way that their place in heaven is secure. Do your Karma and leave the rest to Lord...but just see to it that your bag of good deeds exceeds that of bad so that your soul achieves "Nirvana". or "Moksha" as I like to call it.
So, the thought repulses me to the core as the mother has actually hindered the journey of her children's soul instead of making them better people and in turn better souls !

This woman was a nutter. We can't "send" people to heaven. The children might have been better off with a loving, caring mother first.
Are they in heaven - yes. Does the end justify the means - no.

And to think I had fears about being a bad parent because I was an advocate of safe sex among teens.
Actually Your question scares the livin crap out of me because there are too many people who take the bible literally. And there are people out there that are that into religion and "following god(s)" that they will do what a book written by man says to do.
