The main thing is to think LUXURY not NECESSITY. Younger brides need things like toasters, pans, etc. Older brides already have the necessities and could use a bit of luxury.
I'd suggest a gift certificate to a spa (that she can use the day before her wedding). You could also make her a gift basket of things like slippers, creams, bath oils etc. and put in a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret. A monogrammed spa robe and slippers would be great too (try the Land's End catalogue or online for that.. I've already bought one and they are fantastic).

Gift card sounds great, but not to a spa! Every woman doesn't care for such things. It would be a waste of money to give a gift someone doesn't like. It would be better to ask her what she would like. That way she would know you really care to make her happy and give her a memorable gift.

I think a nice luxury bathrobe and slippers would make a nice gift...and a bottle of champagne. If they registered anywhere, I'd still get something off the list, though. She may have lived on her own quite a while, but that also means her stuff could probably stand to be replaced.

I agree with Mosaic. Luxury is the way to go. Many of us "mature" women that have our own households have the neccesities. We, however, don't often think to treat ourselves.
The spa idea is great. You might consider a mani and pedi gift card. Also, the Victoria's Secret card is a good idea--we might be mature but we're not dead yet.

Spa treatment of some sort
Restaurant gift cert-someplace fancy schmancy
Don't skimp on the fairy-tale-ness of her shower and wedding just because she is older-just think how long she's probably been waiting for her turn!

If she doesn't already own one, a stove-top cast iron grill pan. (make sure it's heavy!) I got mine for $20.00 and I'm always complimented on my grilled vegetables and steaks as the pan actually works better than a barbecue, plus, of course, you can use it all year long. Most people don't own one and it's one of the best, most useful purchases I've ever made.....My second choice would be a gift certificate for a large book store.....you can ALWAYS find something in there!

I would buy her a towel cake or make one it is different and she can use the stuff in it. You can get it with just towels or with bath stuff it in or with a nightie. Everything all in one Plus it is different from anything else your gift will be remembered. You can get them on ebay for all different prices.
Good Luck.
