When you for example have a birthday card through the post with money in it.Do you go out of your way to thank the sender? Or, if your child has a card with money in it, do you make sure they write a thank you note?

What lovely polite people we have on here.I always say thank you too, I just wanted to see what other people did.I'm having in-law trouble not saying thank you to me.

Yes, I always say thank you and send a thank you note. My parents raised me that way and for birthdays, Christmases, etc, I always had to send thank you notes to people who I couldn't thank in person.

My cousins are awful with this and never send thank you notes for anything! It drives me insane. One cousin got married last year and I still haven't received a thank you card for the gift I gave her (not an inexpensive one, either). She doesn't even say thank you if you give her a gift in person.

Oh well, some people will just never be convinced that it's necessary!

You bet, if for no other reason than enlightened self interest. Prompt thank you letters are the best way to insure that recipients will act on any future generous impulses. Even if the gift giver lives 3 doors away, there is nothing to make a person glad to have given you a gift like getting a prompt, thoughtful thank you note or letter.

Yes, of course. They took time out to send a card with money and its the most you can do. Write a thank you note.

My Mother always stressed that I did. I'm actually not that good at it. This is going to sound dirty but it's the truth....I'm good at reaching out to thank people that are close to me or in my everyday circle....you know, the one's most important. However, the Uncle that I see once a year or that lady my mom used to work with...They probably will not hear from me. Sorry.

Yes. And yes. Ann Landers or Dear Abby once said though, that "If the reason you do something nice is that you are wanting to be thanked, then at some point, you are bound to be disappointed." Don't expect everybody else to be this astute.

Of course! It is always proper to acknowledge the kindness and generousity of others! And teaching your children at an early age can only enhance their posture later on in life! Too many people are careless and do not even know what common courtesy is!
P.S. I even thank those that send me emails or telephone me. It helps them to remember that our relationships are very special.

Nice from you to mention the money. But Money usually spoils the road towards its target. I prefer not to hurry in giving answers and I start to search for the sender on the sly (who is who and why is me). I would like to discover him and what are his intentions before I decide to reply on any letter or message.
Thank you is a so valuable word and I can't sacrifice in tossing it inattentively.

I honestly know that I should, and I eventually do. but since I've had kids and a husband and a business; I feel so guilty because I send the thank you cards much later than I know I should

I always write thank you notes, and so does my daughter. If more people did, the world would be a better place.
