Here's what I'd do:
The next time one of them phones up, patiently explain to whoever is on the other side that you have had a number of previous calls, and do not wish to be contacted again. Inform the representative that you will be recording the rest of the conversation and explain that, should they not honour your wishes, you will be forced to pursue legal action against them to prevent further harassment. If you sound calm, and serious, people usually get scared off (It's worked for me with telemarketing firms and the likes)
It might be worth actually really recording it just for kicks - you never know - if they do keep bugging you, sue them. Those scientologists are loaded, and getting on their list might be the best financial thing that's ever happened to you! ;-)

I used to be in the church. No amount of legal threats, logical talk or asking to be removed will work to make them stop. You must change your phone number and never file a change of address with the Post Office if you move. Otherwise, they will find you. They have a policy of NEVER taking anyone off their list. They have programs they run frequently to find every last person who ever signed up for any information since the first chucrh opened. Seriously! The person you speak to on the other end of the line has no authority to follow your requests, and cannot do anything you ask. They are trained to just carry on, no matter what you say or do.
They recently somehow got my unlisted cell number, and that of every family member living in the area. They are calling every one of us daily. I either don't answer or open the phone, then close it.

This is something I have always wanted to do when talking to a telemarketer... Get a friend who is of the sex of the person who is calling and have them act like a jealous s/o and start yelling at you like you are cheating on them. Then have them grab the phone and start yelling at them for stealing their girlfriend. Put them in an awkward situation.

Tell them that if they don't remove your number from their calling list, you'll call the cops and report that they're harassing you. And technically it'll be justified. If they're calling and calling after you've already told them "no" several times then they ARE harassing you.

It seems like thetaalways has the correct answer, except that I wouldn't do it by phone. Write to them with this information. That way it can't be forgotten or ignored.

Tell them the truth like you did on here:
That you did not send in a card asking for more information... that you think your "friend" may have filled one in with your name as a joke......and ask whoever contacts you to please remove your name and # from the
lists of people who have legitimately requested more information.
It's simple. Straight honest communication works.

Tell them L Ron Hubbard was writing another work of fiction when he wrote dianetics, and that they're fools if not retarded for believing otherwise.
