Please, this is a sincere question for the Christians, so let's save the negative remarks for later. I overheard several neighbors talking last evening, and I am simply wondering.

I should probably ask them, but I don't want them to know that I was eavesdropping.

Lucid...You're free to answer any question you wish. I just really don't like things being stirred up when I ask a sincere question that has the potential to lead to a lot of negativity. Especially when creating discord is not my intent for asking.

Well, there are several different ways that Jesus/God has "spoken" to me...and only once was it audible.

The first time was when I was getting out of Wicca, and I decided to pray for the first time in about...oh, six years or so. I don't know what prompted me to do it. So I was telling God that I didn't know if He existed, but if He did, He'd probably given up on me by then.
And I heard this voice, it was so clear, it was like someone was sitting right next to me, and He said, "If I'd given up on you, you'd be dead by now." And in a flash, I remembered all the times I should have died: Riding in a car with a drunk person going more than 90 miles an hour on the freeway with no seatbelt on, swimming under a lightning storm, combining several different drugs at once (in large quantities), the times I drank myself into a stupor on hard liquor...the list goes on and on.

The second time God "spoke" to me, I was standing on my balcony here a couple years ago, right after a young boy had been hit by a car in front of my apartment. I could overhear a couple of the medics (I live on an army post) talking about how they couldn't detect a heartbeat...and the boy wasn't breathing. Meanwhile, I could hear the boy's mother screaming...and I prayed, "God, no mother should lose her son like this. Please do something!" And as soon as I prayed it, I felt this...I don't know, like a SWOOSH, and I felt more than heard a voice say, "YES!" Moments later, the boy's chest starting moving, and then he opened his eyes...and wondered why his mother was crying.

Since those two times, I haven't experienced the same thing exactly, but it's more like...just a prompting. A call to prayer, or a call to read the Bible, or to do something...and sometimes, God gives me the right words to say...He lets me know when to fight and when to let go.

So, it depends on the person. Some never hear an audible voice like my first example, or even my second. Most of the time it's more like the third. It's just a prompting.

I've never heard an audible voice and probably wouldn't trust it. In personal decisions I pray and follow what I believe the Holy Spirit is leading me to do. Usually I don't see the hand of the Lord in my decisions until somewhere down the road. I do believe that the Holy Spirit may put someone or some situation on your mind. I also believe you must be very careful in dealing with interfering in people's lives and situations. It takes alot of tact and making sure it's not something you've thought of yourself.

~~ when i hear from God (Jesus was God in the flesh).
mostly it is with scripture, He gives you an answer
with His word. this is why it is important to study it.
mostly anything that can happen to you has happened to someone in the word. from lying, cheating, rape and
robbery. also there are good things in there too.
love, forgiveness, blessings,healing etc.
sometimes we hear people say 'God told me to....
do this or that, this is just their way of saying,
they had an answer to a pressing thing.
others say 'i heard God say', this also is
just a point to let you know a message has
come to them.
not all answers are the right ones, for if it does
not jive with scripture it could be from the other side!
so my advice to you is to read and pray and Jesus
will help you through anything that comes your
way. for He said He would never leave you without
a comfort. this comfort is the Holy Spirit, a part of the Godhead. for whatever He directs you to do,
if He is coaxing you, will also be in the word too.
i hope this helps you, may God bless and keep you. ~~

I have found Bible verses numerous times when I needed it, not paging and looking for it, but upon opening my Bible my eye would catch a certain verse which was like a direct answer in my situation.

But the following story confirmed to me that God really speaks to his children. I read it here in R&S a few weeks ago, an answer by a woman who called herself agnostic. I hope she wouldn't mind if I tried to retell it:

She said that while shopping she was approached by someone who said that God had told her to give her $50. She didn't want to take it, but the person insisted, so finally she did.

From there she went to another shop, where she gave it to the first person she saw. This woman bursted into tears, saying that she badly needed $50 and had just prayed for it.

The person who wrote this said that she was still agnostic, but was glad that her children were with her to witness a miracle.

Just thought more people ought to hear this story.

i am a christian and when christians say that Jesus has spoken to them , they usually don't mean in an audible voice. it's hard to explain but it's more like a feeling or impression. for example, if you're trying to decide if something is right or wrong a small "voice" w/in you let's you know what is the right thing to do. Jesus said in John 10 that he is like a shepherd and his sheep know his voice. there are many other voices in the world calling for our attention but when we learn to hear His voice through the Bible, etc. we will know which is the right one. Like i said, God most times speaks through the Bible to us. read matthew, mark, luke, and john in the new testament and the words that Jesus speaks are directly to you and you can follow them. that will be another way of Jesus speaking.

When I say that Jesus spoke to me, it can be in several ways:

1. As we search through His Word, the Bible, we can see where there are things that, at that point in our lives, Jesus makes it very clear that the words apply to our situation, that is the truth behind the words.

2. When one is praying, or reading the Bible, or in church services, God can give you an impression (we call it a still, small voice) that gives an answer or brings your attention to something or someone that either

A. Needs to be ministered to or "lifted up"

B. Again, it refers to a situation in your life.

3. As in the case of when I received my oldest son's name, it can be an actual voice, not necessarily audible but, nevertheless, a voice that communicates something to you. If it is God speaking to you, then whatever He says will not run contrary to Scripture.

In the case of my son; I was listening to a Bible teacher on the radio. In the course of his lesson, he expounded on the meaning of a name in the text. When he did, God said to me, "That is your firstborn son's name." Now you must understand that, at the time, I had not even met the woman who is now my wife. This was @ 1990. My son was born in Dec. of 1997. I never met my wife until Dec. of 1991.

However, through all of that, I know, as sure as you know what is around you in the room while you are reading this, that God spoke to me.

As I stated before if whatever that voice says to you is contrary to God's word, then it isn't God talking to you.

God speaks to us in mysterious ways!

You might have some questions that a lot of people cannot answer....or you might not know how to ask people. Why don't you ask God?

He will surely answer the question for you! It may come in Gold Wrapping. But sometimes God uses people to talk to us...The answer to your question may come from a beggar that you ignore everyday...or a friend who's just yupping away to you not realising, that what he/she is saying is the answer you are looking for!

You will only know that it is the right answer when it gives you that inner peace...or it has filled that vacuum within you!

I hope I have answered your question.

Remember when looking around you 'aint workin' try the 'Up - Look'!

God Bless.

When you get saved and born again Jesus sends his comforter which is the Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart. The Spirit lives within you and speaks for Jesus to in a small still voice. In order to hear it you must be focused on Jesus. He must be number one in your life. Sometimes people think they hear it but its just the old devil messing with you, the devil can speak to you thru your mind, putting words in your mouth and in your mind that you normally wouldn't think about but the Holy Spirit will speak from the Heart. Also when you are in the center of Gods will he will speak to you in other ways, there will be verses in the Bible that will just jump off the page at you or there will be a verse in the Bible you never saw before. God can and does speak to people plainly, but first you have to be a child of Jesus Christ, a believer and you have to be focused in on living for him. Sometimes he will send you a dream or a vision, a Christian should never have a nightmare. if you do, go to God about, something is wrong in your life spiritually that God wants to show you. I guess most people dream, but in our dreams a Christian should never be scared, if we are then we need to be Praying about because the Bible says perfect love casts out all fear. 1 John 4:18, There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
Jesus was perfect and if we are doing what God wants us to do, we should not fear, if you have any questions please send me an email, God Bless YOU!!!

One time I heard directly from GOD. It is not an audio kind of hearing but it was clearly not my voice. Mainly GOD speaks to us through the Bible, prayer, events, meditation, and other people. Almost always it will be a combination of all of these things. When we start to understand what GOD is saying everything clicks right into place. It is not a feeling but it is sort of like when you find the puzzle piece you are looking for. Sort of an "Ah HA!" †

Hope that Helps.
