Many of you know I am really into music.
Last night, I was browsing CDBaby, looking for some new tunes. CDBaby categorizes music by genre, so I was perusing the rock section, wanting something fresh. I came across a band whose album cover and influences caught my eye, but in reading their description, the words "Christian rock" jumped off the page. I tried to be fair, and opted to listen to their first song listed on their page.
The opening lyric was to the effect of, "Jesus died for me so I can live forever", at which point I clicked onto the next band's page, disinterested altogether.
In all fairness, I skipped through probably 12-15 bands last night, all but one being secular, and I ended up buying nothing.

I think it has more to do with taste in music. Am I a 'hater' because I skip over 'emo'?

Only you can really say.
Being Christian myself, I do not like Christian rock. I know the subject matter well, and I'm also a musician. What I know about the business is just that- it's business. It is NOT for worship, it's to sell more worldly-flavored stuff to the Christians.
I'm sure there's gotta be something good somewhere, but haven't found it yet.
Actually, the ONLY Christian rock,(theatrical) that is thoughtful, accurate theologically, and makes a point, has been the Alice Cooper albums of late. Not the early stuff, but the recent material. But, to really "get" the work, you need to be familiar with Christian belief.

No, it just means you know what good music is.
I have found only one Christian band I can stand. They're called Reliant K. They do a couple non-religious songs, and it was these I heard first, not knowing they were Christian rock. They're not bad, and even their religious songs are lighter on the preachyness than most.

No, it makes you smart.
I really miss that Christian humor site, The Door. They didn't take themselves seriously and had a hilarious feature called "Ugly Christian Band of the Week". Some of the groups they found are so hard to describe, but I was laughing nonstop and giving them a thumbs up for being to laugh at themselves.
Oldguy, what about Christian Swing or Christian Klezmer bands?

In order to like any type of music, the listener must relate to it on some level. Since you don't believe, you find nothing you can relate to. I suspect that, if you believed in God, you'd at least love Christian music for its message.
Does this make you a bigot? No.

Nothing bigoted about it.
The majority of christian 'rock' sucks very badly - due to the fact that they are christians first, and musicians (barely)second.
I've heard a few that don't immediately make me want to throw up - but they were mostly the equivalent of death metal, so you couldn't understand anything they were saying. It was just thrash guitar, double-bass drums, and screaming.

I'm a Christian-rock virgin. Never listened to it. Only seen it mentioned here.

No. I don't like it one bit myself. My younger brother is really into it, and for the most part it's a pale imitation of whatever musical trend is currently dominant in pop culture, with "Jesus," "faith," and "sin" thrown in here and there.

Maybe it means you like the original bands the Christian rock bands are rip offs of. They even have lists of "secular" bands and their "Christian" equivalents.

Actually there is no such thing as Christian Rock. If it is Rock, it is not Christian. It is in the same catagory as a Christian thief, or a Christian prostitute. The terms are mutually destructive.
