The veneration stems from the best cover-up by an unwed mother in history of mankind.

The Roman Church's veneration of the Virgin Mary is a hangover from the Roman habit of drinking large barrels of wine lined with lead.

Since I'm not Catholic, I can't really comment on the veneration of the Virgin Mary. That's not something I agree with, but they certainly have the right to their beliefs.
I happen to believe the story of the virgin birth. From the standpoint of God creating a Son, it just makes sense to me that He would choose that type of woman. I just wish there was more written about Mary and Joseph so we could see what they were really like and what their lives were really like.

Could be. It also makes a very good story though doesn't it.
I mean, we all like to hear an interesting story... imagine for a minute if Mary was not a Virgin made pregnant by immaculate conception by angels.. what kind of story would it be if the son of God was conceived like any other child? Get a grip. It is not only Romans to whom this story is appealing.

No, it is a hangover from God Himself venerating Mary, calling her "full of grace" and "blessed among women", and selecting her from all the women who ever existed to be the mother of His Son.
The fact of the virgin birth was prophecied long before the event, as the sign by which the Messiah could be recognized.

No doubt. In order to make catholicism palatable to pagans, the church made some concessions and assimilated some pagan beliefs and customs. It was, and is still, all about power, influence and money.

I don't know but what I do know is that they give too much credit to Mary.
