No! Believing in anything is the only hope of the hopeless.

I find this type of question objectionable . ...One clever writer says "opiate for the masses " and every Tom dick and harry quotes him as proof that god doesn't exist ....
Show me the slightest proof god doesn't exist and I'll burn bibles with you ....Until then at least try to find decent arguments for your disbelief ...What do you really know about hopelessness??
People find Christ in jail because they begin to get honest with what they've done and who they are ...

Every one believes in something ...we don't move without an act of will or faith ... You can't pick up a glass without trusting that your hand will move or the glass will actually be there when you get there ...It's about time , motion and space and the reality that ultimately we all will cease to exist at any moment ... we know that....So what type of belief are we going to talk about ....really ?? I can prove you believe in something...Are you hopeless ??
...I'm not ...
(God did find me a job...) ..great story...lots of people wouldn't beiele it but I have zero doubt since I was believing that god would bring one to me .....My father looked at me as though I had been struck on the head by a large truck and proceeded to misquote the bible by saying "God helps those who help themselves"(actually thats Ben Franklins quote) and as he was speaking the answering machine was flashing with a job offer from a christian out of the blue ... go figure huh??...I believe in a living savior who hears and acts in the dialy affairs of our lives... how bout you ??

belief is a base for many. a measure perhaps a place too rest a mind given the complexity of living. it dose in my view attract those in desperation, and or the hopeless. which i might say is one of it's good points, (and despite my hope that it will one day fade from human community) it! dose have some good points.

Well you should know about despair and hopelessness.... pretty much the dictionary definition of unbelief.

Let's see - by my faith, I get to live with hope and die in peace.

What do you get?!?

Go visit a nursing home, my prideful sister. Walk into any room at random. I guarantee you will know within seconds if the person in that bed is an unbeliever.

Atheism is SO cool....until you're dying. I hope you can repent before it's too late.

One has to start from somewhere,

Believe is the first platform for most people. But its important to remember that its just a platform. Normally people get too entangled to this platform that it becomes a hindrance in rising at higher levels.

Meditation and other yogic techniques r faster ways.

Its one's own mind which one has to conquer before spirituality reveals itself.

Yes, it is, at least in the west. Feel bad about yourself? God can help. Poor health? God will heal you. Feeling the weight of your own mortality? God will make you live forever. Lost your job? God can find you a new one.

Religions prey on the hopeless and discontent. They are stock in the trade, and without them, religion would be out of business.
