Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, who is God the Son, and therefore can be addressed as the Mother of God.
This is similar to a commoner who marries a king and becomes the mother of the next king. She is entitled to the title Queen and Mother of the King even though she is not royalty (or divine).
Nobody two hundred, five hundred or a thousand years ago would have been confused about these terms.
But this is hard for people to understand in these times where royalty and kings and queens are few and far between.
With love in Christ.

I have never read anything in any scripture reference that would support that Mary is the Mother of God. God has not mother, or father. He is the alpha. He is the source.
Mary was the human mother of Jesus, who conceived as a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit. The accounts in Luke are very clear. Jesus' father was God, which made him both human and divine.

To say that Mary is the mother of God is to imply that God, the 2nd person of the Trinity, came into being when Mary gave birth to Jesus. This doctrine is not found in the Bible. Jesus, along with the Father and the Holy Spirit, has existed throughout eternity, even before he became a man.

Only God can impart divine nature. Mary gave Jesus his humanity. The account of Christ's birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension can be found in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Well firstly, the Bible doesn't actually "prove" any fact at all. It requires faith.
You won't find a statement that "Mary is the mother of god" in the bible. But if you accept that Jesus is the son of God and that God consists of the "Father, Son and the Holy Spirit", being one with the father... then Mary is the mother of god by reason that it was she who gave birth to Jesus. It's not a chicken and egg dichotomy.

If you read the accounts in Matthew chapter 1 and Luke chapter 1, in both it is stated that the child Mary would have is unique. Matthew states that he will be "Emmanuel", which means "God with us" - a reference to the diety of the child Mary would bear. Luke states that the child would be conceived by God himself - another reference to the diety of the child.
Kind of hard for your child to be divine, and "God with us", and not to be God. So those scriptures show that Mary was the mother of God.
