Maria,
There's no simple answer to your question. It depends a lot on where you were born, where your parents or grandparents were born, your job, your experience and many more factors. There are lots of different ways to qualify for British Nationality.
The best place to start is the official UK government website for people coming to the UK. See http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/RightsAndResponsibilities/Citizensandgovernment/DG_10015894
You may also find the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (http://www.oisc.gov.uk/) useful for finding an immigration consultant. This site has lots of different languages.
There are also several useful forums online (see http://www.ukresident.com/forums/ ) that have lots of experienced people, often consultants, that can answer specific questions based on your particular situation.
Hope this helps
Rob

You have to be born in England to be English, in Wales to be Welsh, Scotland to be a Scot and Ireland to be Irish. We are a small and exclusive club. If you are born anywhere else, you can only apply to get British nationality but that won't make you English, Irish, Welsh or Scottish however long you live in the British Isles.
