Do you find it disturbing the way six cops held him down and tasered him while he was on the ground, for doing nothing but being obnoxious?

Tasers are only supposed to be used as an alternative to shooting someone. They are not supposed to be used when someone is on the ground being held down by six cops.
Don't you think six cops could have gotten him under control or was he supernaturally strong?
Tasers are not to punish someone who is struggling. They are to be used instead of shooting someone. Do you think that guy deserved to be shot?

When tasers were originally issued to cops it was so that they would have an alternative to pulling their guns and using deadly force. Of course cops enjoy having them to use to show someone who is belligerant who is boss. They were never meant to be used to subdue someone who is belligerent. They were issued to be used when someone was about to harm someone or themselves. You people need to realize that we do not need or want police to be physically abusing people when they do not immediately comply with an order. That is not an American ideal, it is what is done under communism or in Nazi Germany.

Are YOU aware that many people have died from being tasered? A woman refused to exit her vehicle at the demand of a cop and was tasered several times. He could have just pulled her out. This happens over and over.
Someone lying on the ground being held down by 6 cops does not need to be tasered!
Many jurisdictions are forming new laws governing under what circumstances someone can be tasered as it now appears that cops taser people much to frequently when it is not necessary. You seem to be a good example. Don't you love having that almighty weapon in your hand that delivers such intense pain when someone doesn't immediately bow and scrape to you?

absolutly! though he was neing obnoxious, he did, RESIST ARREST! which as you may know, he has it coming. basically when you resist arrest you get everything that is coming to you by the police! he had what was coming to him. a society without rules is not a society, it is anarchy, which, by definition, will not ever work. i love the police, and i thank them every single day for doing their jobs.

You need to study use of force. You obviously have no idea how it works. If I believe someone is going to cause me or a third party serious bodily injury or death or is attempting to escape by use of deadly force then I am authorized to use lethal force. In a nutshell that is when you can shoot someone as a Police Officer.
So if someone pulls a gun I am certainly not going to Taser the guy. That would be STUPID.
Tasers are on the use of force continuum just below punches and kicks. They are an alternative to OC spray. So (theoretically) before I begin front kicking someone I would be authorized to Taser someone.
The guy was actively resisting the officers attempts to handcuff him and arrest him. The Taser is an acceptable method of bringing someone under control at that point. I have Tasered people and been cleared of wrong doing in several situations like this.
Don't quit your day job.
Edit: Once again. You have no idea what you are talking about. Have you ever tried to pull someone out of a car that did not want to go? Better yet. Crawl in that car after them and find out they have a gun under the seat.
Also, Taser has never been successfully sued for wrongful death.
All someone has to do is comply. If they don't agree with the charges then they can plead not guilty and fight it in court. That's how innocent law abiding people behave. Trying to fight it out with the police on the side of the road is wrong and what thugs do.

No he didn't deserve it! He had a right to ask questions, and they didn't want him to ask anything. But that's what a debate or press conference is. You can't always choose what questions the audiance asks, and when they ask something that makes you feel uncomfortable, you can't have them tazed. That was way out of line, along with the Cops that held him down while doing it. So it takes 6 big bad Cops with guns and tazers to hold down a skinney Liberal college student and taze him? I hope they feel like Big Men now, because all the world has got to see what they really are, BULLIES that abuse power!
2 wrongs don't make a right!

greetings. I did not hear that the police that tazered the guy at the college campus got fired. They were not even police, were they? were campus police, which are rent a cops, not police. Rent a cop or security guards are not police and are not allowed to even arrest people much less torture them as was done to him. And was he being obnoxious? he was asking a question of a elected official that the offical did not want to answer. What bothers me more then him being tazered was that when he was screaming for help, no one lifted a finger to help him. no one even bothered to call out "What are you cops doing? he isn't threatening anyone" they just sat there. not one of them even picked up their cell phone that I am sure they all carried with them and called 911. good sign if you wanted to observe what happens in countries like communist Russia or republican America where no one has any rights. police can torture or mistreat, beat or shoot to death anyone and all the witnesses see nothing and do nothing. no wonder we are going down the drain as a failed nation. we deserve it.

First of all he deserved to get tazered the moment he resisted arrest. In my opinion they cops should have shot the damn fool. Resisting arrest places the officers lives in danger. They do not know if it is some dumb sob trying to make a political point or a fool on PCP and crack with a gun or a knife in his pocket. If the latter is he going to pull it and hurt or kill the officers involved? This bullshit that police are paid to be endangered is absolutely not what we pay them for. What we pay them for is to keep the fricking mad dogs off the street. If you act like a mad dog then you have committed suicide by cop. Bang you are dead!!! He is still alive so he should be thankful.

It still baffles me how people that have no idea what they are talking about are the first to judge the actions of law enforcement. He was disturbing the peace and UF police repeatedly tried to remove him. He then resisted with violence when went hands-on with an officer. Officers tried to subdue him and he ran from them. He was drive stunned (the taser is applied directly to the individual, no probes being fired into the skin) into compliance, cuffed, and escorted out of the building. He's lucky this didn't happen back when officers weren't so PC and not every self-righteous college kid had a video camera.
Edit: A taser is not the the equivalent of a firearm and is not used as a last resort. It is an effective tool to bring a subject to a more compliant state.

If you would inform yourself - he was hyped up on speed. And he had assulted an officer - a female no less. Geeze - get off the dang soap box. Yeah - sometimes I think excessive force is used when it is not necessary but then again I am not that officer trying to protect YOU from getting killed by some doped up idiot - am I.

Wow... I did not know that the taser was only to be used instead of "shooting someone". I guess tomorrow you will go to a job site and say a hammer is used only to pound nails... How funny is it that law enforcement is one of the only jobs that people tell others how to do it and have no clue. I don't go to the kitchen at a restaurant and tell them to add this or that. I don't go to a bridge builder and say weld this, bolt that... A taser can be used in place of a baton or pepper spray. The effects do not last as long as ether. You are correct though. Since he was asking not to be tased it would have been better to fill his face with OC. I mean the LEO's on scene should comply with his commands since he did not comply with theirs... The "6" you say that were on top of him showed great restraint by not "placing distracting blows until he was placed into handcuffs". By the way you can use a hammer to pry as well...
EDIT...You state something to the effect that police do not need to abuse people when they do not immediately comply with an order. Yet you are talking about the incident with the individual in Florida. He was given many chances. He was not put to the floor on the first occasion that he pulled away. Wich he should have been based on the room he was in. Based on safety you do not give people chances to harm others. Hesitation kills in police work. You can hesitate all day at a lumber yard, I worked at one before this job. At a gym, I worked at one before this. At a mall store, worked at one before this. In fast food. Not in police work. Your correct this is and should not be a police state, or nation. I didn't serve my country 5 years for it to be, Then again with your opinions I don't think that you served at all...
2ND EDIT...You keep on adding incidents of resistors. officers do not want people to "bow and scrape at their feet" or whatever you stated. That makes it harder for them to get into the rear of the squad. Which is what the resistor is trying to avoid. I was in training today and i saw a video clip... I will paraphrase that clip and maybe, just maybe you will understand. Idoubt it. "Police officers have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for criminals, and you curse the police. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what we know. That criminals are in custody, and yes, sometimes dead, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want us on those streets, you need us on those streets. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something, our cities. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man or woman who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very safety that we provide, and then questions the manner in which we (legally)provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post, you walk the street, you try and do this job."

No entirely familiar with the case but here what I always say when people complain about tasers:
1: It's better than being shot
2: It's better than being hit with a club
3: If you would just Shut up and obey the cops they wouldn't be able to do anything to you.
4: As soon as you struggle you're fair game for them to restrain and force into submission.

Tasers are not to be used instead of shooting, they are generally used instead of batons. If the campus police had used an asp instead, he would have most likely suffered from broken bones.
