I was thinking either maple syrup or corn syrup. I've never tried either, but I was thinking it might be good for a smoothie sweetener. I just want to add a little sweetener to my smoothies. The recipe calls for honey, but I realized that honey is not vegan.

Yes, I think the amber agave nectar is your best bet if you looking for a good substitute for honey. I have tried the lighter (color) agave and it just does not have the depth and flavor complexity that you find in different varieties of honey...so I would ask for the amber instead.

Most heath food stores, and Whole Foods carry agave nectar for about $4.50 for an 8 oz bottle.

I hope that helps. :-)

Try agave nectar from the health food store-the amber color is about the same thickness, sweetness, and consistancy as honey. Its also available in light and raw form. Its all natural, totally vegan-it comes from a type of cactus-I use if for everything from pancake syrup, to baking, to smoothies, etc. Good stuff!

Maple Syrup and Corn Syrup are good choices. Molasses may also work. It has a stronger flavor so it may overpower some things but it would work for the vegan aspect.

If you're cooking something, maple syrup, corn syrup, agave nectar, or brown rice syrup will work.

To sweeten your tea, use agave nectar.

You can use brown rice syrup, found at most health food stores. Xylitol (sp) is a good sugar substitute, also at health food stores.

Maple trees are harmed when maple syrup is made and they have to kill the sugar cane plant to make sugar. I suggest that you forget about sweeteners.
