hi. im a teenage girl and i would like to know how i can really get involved in the community in the sense of trying to get people to help with preventing global warming. I feel very strongly about it and I am constantly turning off lights, not letting water run, anything I can do to help with the cause. I tell people about it, but no one really takes me seriously even though they know the problem is there. it's not like they don't support my position, because they do, but no one seems to care enough to do anything. are there any ways that i could contribute and get involved? such as donating to a company, or joining some group? i really want to help out, but i don't know where to start. i'm 15, any ideas?? (also, how can i persuade people to watch what they're doing...starting with my family!! we even watched 'An Inconvenient Truth', so they know the facts and statistics...)
thanks =)

okay, thanks for the good comments, but i have to clear something up. even though i'm young, i'm not stupid. i know people are the cause of global warming and that we can't 'make it go away', and i realize that what i do isn't going to have some giant impact on the earth or anything, but its still nice to help. i just think that if there are things that could be done to even have the SLIGHTEST/SMALLEST impact on global warming, i'll do it. the people that say we can't do one thing about it just...idk, even if that's true, (that what we do doesn't have any effect...) who cares...

Sounds like you're doing a good job minimizing your own impact. One of the best things you can do is to set a good example for others to follow.
Minimize your home's energy use by replacing incandescent bulbs with CFLs, turn lights and appliances off when not in use, turn the thermostat up in the summer and down in the winter, buy energy efficient appliances.
Walk or bike or use public transportation when you can. Try to get a fuel efficient (hybrid if possible) car for when you drive.
Support politicians who make the environment a top priority.
You can look into joining environmental groups such as the Sierra Club as well.

The only way you could possibly make a difference in your contributions to global warming, would be to live as the Native Americans lived. Think about it. Every single thing you do, can be traced back to a point where it impacts the environment negatively. If you believe the man is affecting global warming, that is. Look at all the items in your house right now. How many of them did you and your family make by hand or grow in a garden? None? Guess what, all that stuff has been shipped to your area, by a vehicle which emits carbon dioxide. All those vehicles had to be manufactured at a plant where electricity was used. The majority of electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels. Anything you have, that was commercially produced, adds to global warming because it took energy to produce. You say, "I am constantly turning off lights, not letting water run, anything I can do to help with the cause." Even though this might make you feel emotionally better, it has next to zero impact on global warming. Do you realize that even being alive contributes to global warming? You had better stop breathing out from now on. It's putting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. I feel bad, that you have been so influenced at a young age. The extremist have you so worried that the world is going to end, you cannot even enjoy life. There is absolutely nothing you can do to stop contributing to global warming, if it is a man made problem. Don't you see the absurdity of this? It cannot be prevented, if we are the cause. Please don't take this as an insult, it isn't meant that way. I just don't see how you think anything you can do will actually make a difference, unless you are willing to forgo all modern conveniences and live a lifestyle that is completely natural and in harmony with the earth.

You cant prevent global warming. Global warming is a natural cycle that the earth goes through and has for millions of years. The movie that you seen is just a propaganda with animated polar bears. If al gore really believed global warming was real, he wouldn't use 20 times the amount of electricity that the the average person uses. He wouldn't be flying on private jets all the time either. Besides scientists cant predict what will happen tomorrow accurately, so how are you supposed to believe them? they cant know what will happen 100 years from now

Global warming is caused by the sun and that movie is propaganda. It is almost as reliable as Fahrenheit 9/11

All warming on this planet is caused by the Sun. The Suns output and the Suns temperature is never constant. The Sun is either warming or cooling. This warming/cooling of the Sun is felt here on Earth as warming and cooling as well.
We can see evidence that the Suns warming is having an effect on other planets as well.
Currently it is believed that the Sun is at a solar maximum and will start to lose some power within the next couple of years.
You shouldn't worry. Global warming is natural and always happens. The climate is never static, or the same. There is nothing you can do to effect the climate, man is far to insignificant to have any impact on something as huge as the climate!

The one thing that would have the biggest impact would be to promote nuclear power. That is the only technology that we currently have that could totally replace burning fossil fuels.
