My girlfriend was recently diagnosed as hiv positive. She nor I was aware she was Hiv positive till about 5 days ago. I am testing negative. But the thing is the doctors said she only has 4 t-cells. Does that mean she has had Hiv for a long time or could her t-cell number get that low in just about 3 months?

On a recent diagnosis of HIV you have to remember two phrases and one objective: CD4 cell count (a kind of T cell) and viral load.

The objective is indetectable viral load and to avoid to have less than 200 CD4 cells (to avoid oportunistic diseases)

She has to take care. And you should retest yourself on six months.

Think of T-cells as the composer of the immune system. These guys help to get the immune system activated for fighting infection. I would think that she has had HIV longer than three months or her t-cell count to be 4, but anything is possible.

Um an elevation of white blood cells is an indication that something is wrong with a person. And if her T-Cells are low, she could be anemic. And even though nothing is showing up now, I would get tested again in 6 months just to be sure that you are okay.
