cups are physical measurements, US don't use weights for baking. You can either buy a set of cups from a local shop, or online (I have some), or you can get the conversions from the site below.

1 cup is 8 fluid ounces or 16 tablespoons
PS. On some conversion web sites it may say 2 cups equals 1 pint. but remember an American pint is 16 fl ozs where in the UK it 20 fl ozs

You can't translate cups to weights as cups are by volume.

If it's a baking recipe that includes baking soda etc then you should go get some measuring cups - you can get them at most cookware shops - but otherwise just use a tea cup or a smallish mug to get the right proportions.

Buy a set of measuring cups for 99p, because the weight depends on the ingredient.
ie 1cup flour = 4oz
1cup sugar = 8oz

one cup = eight ounces, however is you are measuring dry stuff, the mesurments will not be exact.

most jugs are labelled as cups - if its a solid item such as butter, then part fill the jug to one cup and float butter to the 2 cups etc level
