If i use this, i would like to know if i will loose any of my files, pics etc?. Will there be any problems i should be aware of?.
Thanks.

Before attempting to upgrade anything, you really should back up all your data - just in case you have an absolute disaster and lose the drive contents.

What operating system do you have just now - you can upgrade from Win 95/98/me - but if you choose to upgrade you'd best select the reinstall option - by doing that you don't bring any underlying problems with the old operating system with you - and your installation is more secure for that. WIn XP home differs from Win XP Pro by the range of security options available in the latter package - designed for an office environment where security needs are most stringent.

The Windows XP SP2 disk is not a new operating system in itself - it is a service pack only designed to update XP home or XP pro. If you want XP Pro - you must get an appropriate installation disk from somewhere.

Have a look at the Microsoft website to check out if your current hardware will be able to handle the upgrade.

The windows XP SP2 disk is a Service Pack disc.

There is absolutely no need to upgrade from Home to Pro, unless you require additional networking functionality.

Service Pack 2 closes a lot of security loopholes in XP, and it is recommended you install it. You will not lose any data by doing so. It is not an XP Upgrade, just a collection of fixes.

it will wipe out everything. And I can tell you from experience, that "the corporate edition " equals pirated. were you given a activation key for this?
All I'm saying is if you have a legal copy of xp, why replace it with an illegal copy? . Number one, it will wipe out your data, and number two, jumping from Home to Professional really isn't that much of an upgrade. the difference between the two isn't worth it the hassle, in my opinion, to bother. The only cool feature with professional, is remote assistance, but you can do the same thing on home with 3rd party apps like logmein.com. I'd leave things alone if I were you.

If the disc is genuine, not a pirate copy, you will be ok.just install it normally.IT,s a very good program XPwith SP2....If it is the service pack two disc only, you can install it anyway ,as it is needed with XP......I agree with curlylox, you dont need to change from XP HOME...

The disk by itself is no good. You need the authentication sticker or you will not be able to activate the new copy of Windows (or revert to your old XP Home). Also, I defy you to find a significant difference between the Home and Pro editions (yes there are differences but nothing you are likely to use).

That said, if you have a disk plus sticker you should be able to upgrade without losing files or programs.

If you insert the disk from windows, a box will pop up with options... one of which is to upgrade.

If you use that option your files will be backed up, the wizard you follow will tell you where the files are (usually C:/Documents and Settings/user-name/old docs)

You shouldn't lose a thing, the upgrade process is very straightforward, just pop the disc in and follow the instructions.
