You can download a 60-day trial version of 2007 Office Standard or Professional at http://microsoft.com (click at Download - Office). Both of these include 2007 Office Word.

Trials can be upgraded to full versions at trial end or any time during the trial by acquiring a software license online. You can do this in the application.

If you are a corporate customer, you'll be able to download Office products and suites at the Microsoft Volume Licensing Services website at https://licensing.microsoft.com/ by logging in with your Live credentials.

To have a legitimate copy and have access to technical support, you have to purchase a copy. You can purchase Microsoft Office which includes other software programs or you can purchase Microsoft Word 2007 only.

Go to Microsoft.com
On the left side of the page, you will see a list of Desktop Programs, click on Word
Select "download" trial copy
or you can select "buy now"
If you select the Buy Now option, it will take you to a purchase page which reads "buy from retailers"

Click on Office Max, Circuit City, Best Buy, Staples, Home Depot or Comp USA to make your purchase.

You can download a free trial from Microsoft from their site, but Word is not free. Word comes in the Microsoft Office suite, which is not freeware and must be bought.
