I use satin wood, as I don't like the gloss finish. I don't think the emulsion would be hard wearing enough.

You'd be better off using a satin finish. Matt will mark too easily and will wipe off with a damp cloth. I've used Satinwood water based paint on all indoor woodwork throughout my house, the one made for kitchen use is exceptionally durable and can even be used it on radiators. I've even used satin emulsion on my outside fence as they didn't have the colour I wanted and it's lasted for ages, much longer than the fence stuff and it stays cleaner too. I had loads of left over bits of emulsion I mixed them together to obtain the colour I wanted and my fence has stayed good looking.

Hope this helps and have a nice day.

Yes - I've swapped to emulsion for most of my wooden areas. It's way quicker and looks nicer. It's been done a couple of years so far and still looks fine, even thought I have to wipe down occasionally because of the dogs. I've found that the modern gloss/satin tends to chip off quickly anyway.

Better off using satin finish gloss for a matt finish. Emulsion doesn't have the staying power!!

you need a satin finish it has the same durable qualities of gloss without the shine, alot of new builds now are going for this finish rather than gloss, emulsion wont stand up to much and really doesn't look all that good either, and remember a good finish is only as good as the prep.

NO! Doesn't work.
To do this job you need to 'sand' the skirting board to the bare wood, apply an undercoat (twice is best) and then use either matt or gloss paint (again twice if necessary)! Then step back and admire the result :)

def not - the emulsion is not designed to be put onto wood and it really won't stand up to the job. better off with an undercoat and then some eggshell on top. alternatively if the boards are nice why not varnish them?
