I am thinking of video taping friends and family about us, and our upcoming nuptials. Also getting people to write letters about us or a little story of some sort that my fiancee or I or a "narrator" can read on the DVD. Maybe the slide show of us growing up and all that. In and around ten-15 minutes.

-Good Idea or Tacky?
-If we do it, should we show it during the reception, or make it a favour so people don't have to watch it if they don't want to?

We are getting married in less than two weeks and we are going to have a simple slide show of the two of us through the years. About 15 pic's each and then just playing when the guests arrive at the reception. This will only play while they have ors douvres and take their seats. This way the ones who want to watch it may and those who don't, don't have to. It will only last maybe 2.5 -3 minutes and then loop for a little while (maybe 15-20 minutes) it will be off by the time we arrive and are announced. It will not be to any music because there will already be music playing in the background of the hall. Anyway, I love your idea as a gift yo your parents/family after the wedding but for the amount of work that it involves, I dont think you'll have the impact your ooking for. You might want to let people know it's available if they would like it, or something like that.

Congrats!! and Best Wished to you and your Future Husband!!

A slide show can be a great touch to a wedding, however don’t over do it. You want to keep it simple enough that your guests don’t lose interest. You can buy a guest book that comes with handouts to leave on the tables at your reception for the guests to fill out, that has questions like how long have you know the bride/groom? How did you meet? What is your favorite memory? Then put them in the album and you have all sorts of different memoires from people at your reception.

At the last wedding I went to the couple showed a DVD of them growing up with music at the reception. It lasted about 8 minutes. The first minute people were interested and then after another minute or so people were talking, shifting in their seats etc. At about 5 minutes people were rolling their eyes and getting very annoyed. It's tacky. If you really want to do it then show it at the rehearsal dinner.

great idea, to have a dvd....BUT the only people that want to watch someone's wedding DVD are the bride and groom, and the parents of the bride and groom; sorry to burst your bubble, the rest of the world really doesn't care about watching your wedding over and over again; so save your money and don't make copies as favors and don't show it during the reception, they just lived it.........

I've received it as a favor from my aunt, I think if you showed it during the reception that'd be a bit much.

Most people don't want to see wedding videos unless they are part of the wedding party or close family. I would not subject anyone to that unless I knew for sure that they were interested.
