I am planning to buy a hi-fi system, should i go for Philips or Sony. My preference is Sony. I heard that Sony doesn't allow to play pirated DVDs/ CDs ? is that true. Which shall I go for? and which will be the best model?

As you can see, not many sony fans out there. To be completely honest with you I think very little of both of these companies as well. If you want my opinion, go with Onkyo, if not onkyo, at least samsung. They have good home theater in a box sets. But you are here for an answer to your question. If I HAD to pick between the two, I would go with sony. They have better surround effects, and smarter decoders. Thier recievers are not too bad, it's just thier speakers aren't that great but it beats phillips. Good Luck.

Philips in a mid to low point style now days. Sony is great for TVs and DVDs yet there stereo is lower back mid point. For extra effective high quality receivers attempt Yamaha, Dennon, or onkyo
