Besides actually consuming pot in food or in smoke in the air near others who are smoking, there will also be a few test results that are just wrong. It's not magic, not junk science, but rather, real "errors", actual, predictable, well documented and well understood parts of the test itself.
In fact EVERY blood test has a quantity of false positives, that is, a number of results indicating positive that are actually negative, and a number of false negatives, that is, results indicating negative that were actually positive.
Simple example of false negative is this: the quantity of pot in a subject is too low to be shown as positive on the test, i.e., the amount in the blood is below the sensitivity level of the test.
Tests are designed to set the threshold between the true and the false results to an "acceptable" level. Setting the threshold lower to make it more sensitive (and catch many more pot smokers even though not much is left in their blood) would be great for the cops, except it would cause many more false positives to appear.
People searching for something to report to "excuse" the positive results of a test for someone... well, that's not going to work, unless you are talking about one of the rare legal sources of pot, in which case the cops will want proof that it's legal.
Plus, if one has enough in them from second hand smoke to give positive test results, it would take so much second hand smoke, you would be expected to have reported the smokers for using marijuana in your home against your will!
Best practice is simply to stay away from pot altogether. If this is not preferred, that would be understandable, because this is an addiction, and the user's body will mount it's own protests when the user tries to stop using it.
This is called withdrawal, but it is often quoted that there is no addiction and therefore no withdrawal from marijuana, which I can assure you, is not true. Marijuana can be quite addicting and also has an identifiable array of withdrawal symptoms, including insomnia, anxiety, and other symptoms. Much of medical literature ignores this.

You can pick it up second hand if you are around others using it.Also there is such a result as a false positive though they won't admit it.I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the book I read it in, but it has been documented.
