Because something bad may have happened in their lives and they THINK God wasn't there or didn't care about them (but he did care) it was a test to see if they would keep having faith in him but these people ended up failing the test and became atheist.
OR
They just don't believe in God at all

Because every religion looks to me like a small bunch of control freaks taking charge of the lives of a large bunch of muppets.
Because "we know the Bible is true because the Bible says the Bible is true" just isn't bloody well good enough.
Because all religions require one to believe some truly ridiculous things. The story of the flood in Genesis comes leaping to mind. That story doesn't even attempt to explain why kiwis and tuataras ended up in New Zealand, kangaroos in Australia, polar bears in the Arctic, penguins in the Antarctic etc etc. Darwin, on the other hand, did an excellent job of explaining this.
Because there just isn't any real reason not to be.

I'm a muslim and my opinion of Athiest is that they are unsatisfied with all the answer given by religious leader about God.They are matured now and have went thru secular education, able to make their own decision in life that they chose. They doesn't like people telling them to just follows the way of their fore father religion without knowing the reason of it all. They see thing thru scientific discovery and not to follow order blindly. Now that they are matured, they will use this opportunity to seek out the truth about life existence, religion, politics and all sort of things in Life.Athiest are not all bad,the same as not all religious people are all good. Hopefully they will find the truth or light and may the real God guide them the way to the truth,light.Amen.

Can't speak for atheists, but as an agnostic, Im open to the idea that a God of some kind exists, though I am not drawn any religion to tell me how I should interpret that God.
I came to my beliefs through questioning and marvel at this incredible universe, which inspired me to seek understanding of it.

1. No empirical, scientifically supported evidence that a god exists.
2. No personal experience suggesting that a god exists.
3. Contradictions, historical inaccuracies, wholly unbelievable accounts in religious texts.
4. Born into atheist homes or never raised to follow a particular religion.

Well, some become dissillusioned with their religious faith after certain events have happened to affect their lives, some consider all aspects of all religions and come to their own conclusions (ie. they conclude that atheism is what they most 'believe' in), and some simply drift away from their faith or simply come to a 'realisation' that their is no higher power.
as for me, i simply 'realised' in my teens, that there was no God, and that's how i became atheist.
It's hard to explain, but it happened somehow, and gradually.

I was born without any god belief and have managed to stay that way all through my life. I did have someone to look up to though, one who was brave and full of wisdom. One who would teach me right from wrong. One who wouldn't allow me to read the bible until I was old enough to understand it for what it is. My father.

Because sometimes independant thought likes to pipe up and say "Hey... wait a moment... that doesn't make sense"...
We call that doubt.... and doubt in the end will be your only salvation.
It all tends to start fixing itself from there.

The same reason you are an ATHEIST - you are - to thousands of gods. We are to only one more than you. If you understand your own atheism, why not ours, we only go one god further!

Because it's the only thing that makes sense.
What are the options? Reality-based free thinking, or delusion shizophrenia-lite.
