I think, personally, the Chinese symbol would look better, and seem a bit more, mmmm, mature. BFF? That's more what teenagers say via text message, isn't it?
If not Chinese, what about Hebrew? Or even "Elvish" from "Lord of the Rings"
I've seen tattoos in "Elvish" and they are really cool.
Sorry. I am going to have to agree with your friend on this one.

Either don't get the tattoo until you can agree or both get the same tiger tattoo, but put the lettering that you each like between your respective tigers or put both forms of lettering between the tigers on both of you.

Maybe she could get the chinese and you could get the english...the tigers would still be the same, but that would give each of your tattoos individuality as well as your best friend connection. The main thing is to get what you truly wany...do not compromise, but the same goes for her. If you get something because someone else convinces you, you wil probably never be truly happy with it.

If you can only agree on the tigers, then only get the tigers - you are going to have this tattoo for a long time.

Just the tigers only.
Though the chinese symbols do look better looking than a bff. Which to me starts the misspelling of barf.

You are right to not want to get the Chinese symbol. You can't read Chinese. Not only do you not know for sure what it says (and neither would your tattooist, most likely), but it's really very disrespectful to the culture.
Try coming up with a 3rd option. Perhaps a phrase, or something. A song you both like about friendship. Whatever comes to mind.

You won't be able to sue. You saw the stencil. It sucks he messed up, but so did you. Are your friend's tattoos spelled correctly? It seems strange he'd only mess up yours, unless it said something different than everyone else's. Anyway, the bottom like is that you do not have grounds for a lawsuit, you just have a crappy situation. If the artist already took responsibility for it, he seems like a stand up guy, so see what he says e can do to fix it.

Why don't you each get what you want with the tigers being the common denominator? By best friend and I have matching lilies. Hers is color, mine is black and greys. Just because they're "matching" tattoos doesn't mean they have to be exactly the same. You and your best friend aren't exactly the same either.

I suggest you do what I did and get the basics of the same tattoo and add your own unique twist to it. I respect that you want to have the same one, but keep in mind, you'll have this to look at for the rest of your life.

No offense, I really don't like the BFF...do you not like other languages at all? You can research other languages, like sanscrit (sp? Like what Angelina Jolie has I think). I think that would be cool. Or try to come up with another thing to tie them together. I think it's cool that your doing that, but there is also nothing wrong with doing different things....although that might defeat the purpose. Find something in Sanscrit! It'll be cool!
