Anytime I am around people I dont know, I cant breathe, my heart starts pounding like crazy. I work by a park, when I get out of work I walk home, and when I walk by the kids in the park, I get very nervous, and I just dont understand, the kids are only like 5 to 12 years old. The same thing happens anytime I am going for a walk, and someone walks by me, I always get the feeling that they are going to attack me. When I am in my car and someone pulls up next to me, I cant even look at them, when they pull up next to me, I get very nervous like they are going to do something to me. I never make eye contact with anyone I dont know, because I think that is it going to set them off. What I dont understand is that I have never been attacked, I have no reason to feel like this. I live in a good neighborhood, nothing bad ever happens here. I am a 24 year old male. Does anyone know how I can get anxiety medication, I dont want to go to the doctor, I think he will think I am just making it up.

I actually have experienced this. I would get anxiety attacks every time I did it after about a year or so of smoking everyday. I then stopped for about 6 months and tried it again but I still got anxiety attacks. I stopped again for a few weeks and tried it, but I still experienced the same thing. There was a time that I was hanging out with my friends and I got an anxiety attack just from breathing in the smoke without actually smoking. I don't know why and I don't know how to stop it. The only way that I know of is to stop completely.

the medication for anxiety attacks is zoloft or prozac, but you would really need to see a physicatrist not only for the medication, but also for the "talking" therapy. You have to go to a doctor you can trust, and talk to, so you can find out the reasons for your anxiety attacks.

generally there is a lack of some enzyme in the brain. Science yet does not understand why. What we do know is that medication and psychotherapy DO WORK.
It takes time to "normalize". For some people it may take weeks, or months, or years.
Keep on taking the medication. Do not skip, even if you feel you are already better, in order to avoid relapses.

Dont worry, you are not crazy. Quite a number of people have anxiety problems, but the manifestations and symptoms vary from person to person. It just so happens that yours is that way.

Seek professional help. The common person will not understand this or know how to help, other than give "common sense advice" and that is not enough. So asking friends for help about this probably wouldnt help.

One of the VERY IMPORTANT aspect of curing anxiety is EXCERCISE. Start excercising, because this produces endorphins which are the feel good hormones, opposite of the anxiety hormones. Excercise must be regular, maybe 3x a week. You can just walk or whatever.

Anxiety, Depression and Obsessive Compulsive behaviour are three variants which all belong to the same line. That is why they all have the same medication.

Excercise is important. Research has shown that people who excercise regularly do better than those who take medication only.

Remember, go to a doctor. It will be easier. It will cost though.

Also, medications are long term. Eventually, it may be possible to wean yourself off it, with the approval and advice of the doctor.

Make yourself busy, do something. By doing anything you keep your mind off your anxiety. When you wake up in the morning start doing something right away, and keep busy all day. Cleaning the house, washing the dishes or working in your garden, reading, studying, exercising your body or and meditating can help you keep your mind away from anxiety. Just sitting around and thinking about your problems and worries won't make them go away.

Find reasons to laugh. This will bring light and happiness into your life and drive anxiety away. Watch comedies, be with happy and amusing friends or read something that makes you laugh.

Exercise regularly. People who have anxiety often quit exercising, but exercise can give you a sense of well-being and help decrease your stress.

Avoid caffeine, a stimulant found in coffee, tea, soft drinks, and chocolate. Caffeine may increase your sense of anxiety. Also avoid over-the-counter diet pills and supplements that contain ephedra (Ma huang) and other stimulants.

Control your worry. Pick a place and time to do your worrying. Make it the same time and same place every day. Spend 30 minutes thinking about your concerns and what you can do about them. Try not to dwell on what "might" happen. Focus more on what's really happening.Thought stopping is a skill that requires commitment and practice, practice, practice. Here are some quick tips to help you begin to control your thoughts:
Words and Phrases
» Stop!
» I can cope.
» I am okay.
» I have done it before, I can do it again.
» Okay, just slow down. You will be alright. You are going to be okay.
» This will pass - give it time.
» Just relax.
» I can accept this - it is unpleasant, not dangerous.
Actions
» Talk to someone.
» Breathe deep and slowly.
» Carry a lucky charm - touch it.
» Visualize a peaceful scene.
» Focus on external happenings - the wind, the sun, birds, noises.
» Sit down. Touch the earth. Touch a tree.
» Look at the ants working.
» Turn up the radio. Sing out loud. Hum a tune.
» Perform physical work.

Get plenty of sleep. Don't rely on alcohol or drugs. It may seem that alcohol or drugs relax you, but in the long run, they worsen anxiety and depression.

When you go to bed at night, and first thing when you wake up in the morning, think about the good things that are happening to you. There are always some good things happening, even if small and insignificant.

Talk about your anxieties to someone you trust. Talking about your anxieties and feelings often alleviate them and put them in the right proportions, provided you talk objectively, and with a real desire to reduce or get rid of your anxiety.

Talk about your anxiety with your doctor. This is important so your doctor can make sure your plan is working. You may also need to see a counselor. Counseling can help you learn to express your needs and cope with your feelings. Support groups can also be helpful, both during counseling and to bolster your sense of security afterwards.

Maybe in a subconious way you are afraid of confrontation & this could be coming from childhood or something that has happened to that was traumatizing but you are unable to pinpoint it because you have repressed your feelings in one way or another.

I would definetly recommend seeing a counceller about your problem. It sounds like it may manifest in to agoraphobia which is not healthy at all. They will help you pinpoint the cause of this anxiety. If it still does not improve, you might need to be put on meds.

I know this because I started having anxiety attacks last year out of no where & kept going to the hospital thinking it was a heart attack. I was put on meds which did help control it but eventually they stopped working & went to see a counceller to pin point what the cause of it was. I am off meds & my attacks are mild but I have been shown a few CBT's that help me pull through them.

I too have had anxiety attacks, and I know they are scary and you will think you are "losing your mind", But your not. I tried the medication and it did not work for me. It might work for you. Go to the doctor, he will not think your crazy. This is a very common condition. Try some deep breathing exercises. A deep breath is like you body's natural valuum. When you feel an attack coming on and you heart starts racing and you feel light headed and short of breath, Take slow deep breaths and keep telling yourself that it is all in your head and you are strong enough to overcome it. Don't let it get you down you have to be strong. It will pass. I hope that I have helped you in some way. Best of luck!

Drinking too much alcohol can leave you with the jitters the next day. As can a lot of coffee.
You might think of attending a yoga class in your area. There you'd learn relaxation techniques and also be meeting friendly people with the same interest as yourself.
If you really think you need medication then you should get it from your own doctor. If you explain things to him/her I'm sure they won't think you're making anything up.
Good luck

I often feel this way too. It sounds like some form of social anxiety. Visit your doctor who can rule out any physical causes and if negative he can refer you to a psychologist who can evaluate you, provide therapy and see if you need medication. Then you will probably see a psychiatrist who will decide which medications would be most effective.

Good luck

This is surely a case of chemical changes in Mind. Cosidering your detailed conditions I will advise to avail homeopathic treatment as they have cured such cases easily. Since you dont want to go to a clinic try online Homeopathy service which do the same privately through email exchanges, run by 30 years experienced old homeopath. The web I dont know but their email is nic1611@yahoo.com, I am sure you will be cured by homeopathy alone. Good luck.
