I have noticed that a lot of people here get really offended over questions that question religion. Religion is a belief, and if you following a relgion, then you are believing it at most. You didn't create it, and you weren't the one who died over it's existance.

So why be offended by the questions? I used to believe that pluto was a planet, but now science decided that it isn't a planet anymore. I am not upset of offended now. I am just accepting that what I used to believe in is not true.

So come on religious weirdos. There are answers outside of what you have been accustomed to follow.

One of the first thing to note may be that Y/A seems to have an abnormally high concentration of people with abnormally low IQs. With that in mind we can note that it's the dumber people who're often the fundies who take things to an extreme. They're the people who's beliefs are shaky, deep inside, but have been programed so hard... To even be on the topic of a hypothetical discussion of what-ifs and whys leaves them vulnerable, angry, defensive, insulted maybe even as a result of the temptation of subversion?

Usually the people you'll catch here with a religious subject will probably be the ones who're here to work in the opposite direction and to shed 'the light of god' unto others - rather than to be rational and open.

Your comparison to the planetary situation isn't really fair either. You've no invested belief system founded on Pluto being considered a planet, the change also doesn't mean Pluto no longer exists. It means that science has decided to be a bunch of pricks and redefine "planet". It is still a part of the solar system and as defined by the activity observed by people through the history of man it still looks like a planet and acts like a planet.

Now - if someone told you that Pluto is stupid, it doesn't actually exist and you've been living a lie - you might kind of think "Wait, what? That's ****** up!" Just imagine that feeling if you thought that was where everyone you ever loved went when they died and now all the relief and comfort from knowing your loved ones were happily waiting for you on the beautiful shores of Pluto were all phoney! Where are they now?! Why didn't you know? Think of all the time you missed with them because you figured you had eternity to be with them! What happens to them? What happens to you?! How could everything you've ever believed be a hoax?! *falls out of chair*

Well anyway. It can still be a sensitive issue for a lot of people. Especially considering it isn't just a religion or an idea but the subject involves their most sacred beliefs, the most sacred and most respected... The gods! The ones they both fear and love and worship - it's easy for one of us to say something that in their mind could damn us to hell forever and while I'm sure that bothers them in many cases I'll bet they also don't want to get taken with us!

Naturally when it comes to burning in hell for eternity - it's going to be a touchy subject, don't you think?

Oh well. I hear it's a DRY HEAT.

I don't know, do people usually call those who are religious "weirdos" and then wonder why they get offended?

Perhaps some of my fellow religious people get "offended" at SOME of the questions because they are presumptuous, condescending, self-righteous (oh yes, even atheists can be self-righteous, Christians and other religious people don't have a monopoly on it!), vacuous, vapid, and/or asked a million times a day on here. Or, it's because someone THINKS they understand the Bible just because they know how to read. I can tell you, there's a HUGE difference between KNOWING something, and UNDERSTANDING something (caps for emphasis only). Any mathematician will tell you this. One can KNOW that pi is 3.14, but unless you understand WHY it's 3.14, it means nothing.

Some people wrap their self image up in a label instead of substance, such as being a Christian (label) as opposed to living the lessons taught by Jesus (substance). If my self image is being Christian then any negative statement about that religion is a personal attack on me. If my self image is following the teachings of Jesus then you can criticize the religion all you wish (although I may disagree and debate you) because I know I am trying to live as an example of all that is good in that belief system.

I dont think people angry because of the question itself but they maybe offended the way you put it in words.

The words, the sentences you used, many times consists of somekind of humiliation. You may not aware of it.
Mind you, I can feel your atheism in your questions, which is quite opposite from people with wisdom.

There are people who are wise, they maybe Hindu not Christians, they maybe Budhist, very rare atheists.
Atheists usually are sarcastic. That's understood.
But when you ask question with sarcasm then dont get offended when religious people are offended.

Sometimes, you really sound like a nutt. Sometomes I think , maybe you actually are, just a nutt. First I thought you are smart, but the longer I know, that thought fades slowly .

You have to realize that they see themselves as warriors for God and defenders of The Ultimate Truth. They cannot bear to let Jesus be questioned by doubters. To them, it's as if you walked up to their best friend and punched him in the face, and now they must defend his honor. So, you're not really offending THEM, you're offending GOD, as far as they're concerned. Why they think the almighty creator of the universe needs puny humans to defend him, I don't know. He could surely do it himself if he wanted to.

I think the ideology is cause to be concerned for the "lost" souls of the world. We're not as offended as we are worried that we haven't done everything possible to insure your salvation (that's what "love thy neighbor" means to us). I'm sorry if it comes across as offense taken, but in reality, it's frustration that you don't want to see what we consider to be the truth. Because of our faith & our obligation to it, we will keep trying, though.

They don't like anyone to question their beliefs but expect you to be like them and follow them blindly into the hypocrisy that they've helped to create.

It's offensive only to those who are afraid to think. There's a frighteningly large number of such people out there.
