for just that reason? no, not at all. you join the military to SERVE YOUR COUNTRY, not get a free round trip ticket to exotic locales.
besises, there is always the chance of joining and never once being sent anywhere other than Stateside.

If that's your only purpowse - absolutely NO! You can travel the world in many other ways and not risk going to Iraq and dying. Besides, in the army you very well might not get to see much of another country except through the barracks windows,
Save up enough cash for an off-season plane ticket and maybe $500 for hostels, train fair, food etc. Meet uyp with other's on the road and you'll find out where the good deals are, where yo mnight find a few days work etc etc. Also, checkout booking passage on a frieghter which might be even more fun from what I've heard from folks who have done it. Anolther way is start college and then use some funds to take overseas classes in your field. If yoy're really adventurous, learn to sail and crew on a boat going somewhere.
There are many ways to really see the world without joining the military.

No - although seeing other parts of the world is a good bonus to being a soldier.

Rather, it shouldn't even factor in as a major reason for joining the military - a person should join the military because they want to give the military lifestyle a try and do something beneficial, not for travel prospects or any of what I consider to be 'bonus reasons'.

There are far better alternatives to traveling outside the military, even if affording it is a problem - not only is backpacking cheap, but short-term casual jobs are often readily available for them overseas.

Oh, sure, the military is much like Club Med and will let you travel anywhere you want at their expense.

Seriously, if you're joining the military to be a tourist in camo, you're going to be pretty disappointed.

For a lot of folks, the main travel destination these days is Iraq. Take lots of sunscreen.

Sadly, it sounds like you're another one that wants to see what you can take from the military, not what you can give.

Being in the service is not exactly like being on a vacation although it will certainly give you the opportunity to travel to foreign lands, but these places won't be of YOUR choice.

Reasons for joining the military should be of a more patriotic nature while, at the same time, you can enjoy the benefits of furthering your education for free, training for a new career and, most importantly, serving your country.

If you join the navy you could go places, if you join any other branch most likely the only world traveling you will do is to the middle east.

No--not during war time. At this stage of current world events, military personnel are likely going to see the world only by stopping in Iraq for a miserable stay.

Aside from the Navy, most services don't actually travel that much. And even in the Navy you'll spend at least half your time stateside. (Actually under current circumstances you do stand a good chance of travel, but it's not what I would call exciting scenery.)

It sounds not good, if you"ll do that your an opportunist.Entering in military is a call of vocation for his love in country, people, and God.Its not for travel pleasure.
If you really like to travel and your a traveler i think you can find your own idea and descrition,on how you can reach that ambition and satisfy yourselves thru your own effort.
