About 13 here ... a glass of wine on New Years would pretty much put me and the rest of the kids at the house to sleep while the adults could get their drink on.

My parents introduced me to drink the same as most European countries, with a glass of water with about the same wine in as you would squash then building it up stronger until I was like 13/14 and it was just wine/ beer depending on the meal, so think i started at about 7/8.

At our family re-unions, it was common for Grandpas to give kids sips of beer. Everyone around the boccie court had some for the kids. I would say most of us got a few tastes of beer by age 6. Didn't do this on my own til I was 16.
