the only way to effective stimulate a muscle is by causing it to shorten and be operated over the entire range of motion. as the 1st poster stated you can do isometric contractions but they are less than optimum as the muscle is not shortened (contracted) but activated and held at a fixed length.

ab training only takes 15-20 minutes 3x a week. unless you make changes to the diet and drop some body fat to well below average levels you won't be able to see the entire abdominal wall with out flexing.

great abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym...

The Jumping Jack is an excellent excercise, popularized by fitness guru Jack LaLanne. Referred to by LaLanne as the "Star Jump", this exercise trains all parts of the body at once.

Supervised weight training and other cardiovascular exercises such as walking and running are also great ways to burn calories, fat, and build and tone muscle.

sucking in your belly aka body tension works well but crunching motion works well too.still they are no match for standard ab workouts.
