- The SCR is a current controlled device
- The IGBT is a voltage controlled device.

- When the SCR gate current exceeds the threshold current, current flows through the main 'diode' until the terminal voltage drops to near zero.
- In an IGBT current flows, proportional to the applied voltage at the base.

3.
- In an SCR, once the threshold current is applied and the device turns 'on', you can remove the gate current and the device will remain 'on' (until the terminal voltage = 0).
- In an IGBT, if you remove the base voltage, the device will turn 'off', if you apply a proper base voltage the device will turn 'on'.
