It happened a week ago. He is eating and drinking lots of water but I had to make him a bed outside because of the urine, his pee is clear but he squats and goes in the house and leaks when I pick him up. I'm wondering if it's permanent. I don't have money for a vet and doubt they could do anything anyway. Has anyone had a cat recover from this?

Your cat has probably a fracture of the ureter or the kidney, and your cat is in pain. It is very serious if left untreated. The vet CAN heal it. So don't fool yourself, there are only 2 options: 1. you find the money for the vet and the cat lives happily ever after, 2. you let it be like this and the cat very possibly dies. But you must ask the vet to at least check the cat, because I can't diagnose over the internet. I may be wrong.

No, he probably won't survive, because if he is damaged he is probably infected and will die anyhow. You should have taken that cat to the vet a week ago. Gimme a break, what kind of animal owner doesn't take their animal to the vet after it's been hit by a car? Take the cat to the vet, and hope they'll fix him for up for very little money. Next time you get a cat, keep it indoors, and would avoid all this in the first place.

Like everyone here said, your cat needs a vet. I know you may think you cannot afford it, but when you bought / found / adopted him, you took on the responsibility of his life. He could have a ruptured bladder, he could have internal damage that you can't see...

When you say that a vet 'couldn't do anything for him anyway', you are already dismissing his best chance to live.

If you cannot care for him any longer, either end his suffering by having him humanely euthanized by your vet, or relinquish him to a shelter that can actually try to help him.
For assistance with veterinary bills / care, first speak with your vet. The office I used to work at ALWAYS put the animal's care first. They would at least stabilize and get the animal out of pain, then evaluate the situation, and then provide ALL options to the owner, including humanely euthanizing them.

If you're really attached to your cat, you can also reach out to many organizations. As you obviously have access to the internet, put in 'low-cost veterinary assistance' into your browser and start clicking the links.

I recommend http://www.bideawee.org/about_bideawee/index.php , as they're pretty well known, but there's also the UAN - http://www.uan.org/index.cfm?navid=163 , and if you're near NYC, the CACC - http://www.nycacc.org/Low_Cost_Veterinary_Flyer.htm

Please don't make him needlessly suffer much longer. Instead of relegating him outside where he could be hit by another car, could you put him in a bathroom or kitchen, somewhere safe and warm?

Whatever you do, PLEASE do not let him just go on like this. He needs help. While he may look okay to you, he may be hiding serious internal injuries. Cats instinctually hide any signs of pain - when they were wild, it was a sign of weakness, and they would become easy prey. He may not feel as good as he looks.

I'd be very interested in following up on this story, and if you need more resources, please let me know. Good luck.

Your cat got hit by a car a WEEK ago and instead of taking him the veternarian basically because your a tightfisted asshole, you've tossed him outside to suffer? WOW, you should get an award for pet owner of the year!

He's obviously in need of a Vet visit. Call around and find one that will let you make payments. As a pet owner you are responsible for his safety and his health. You might try the SPCA or a shelter.
Please help him!

Your cat needs to go to the vet as he has suffered an injury. Part of responsible pet ownership is taking proper care of your pet and that includes vet visits. I realize that it is extra money but it needs to be done. Contact a low cost animal hospital or your local ASPCA and see if they have a clinic.
You are keeping him outside because of an injury. He shouldn't be punished because he is hurt.

Yes this could most likely be fixed - get your cat to a vet and ask if there is any way you could manage to get him seen to and pay his treatment off in regular weekly payments.

Bring it to the vet, its your resposibility. He could have internal injeries that you know nothing about and probably does from what your explaining. If you don't have the money to get it an operation or whatever it needs put it out of its missery. As much as I hate to say that, you don;t want it to suffer do you?

Even if you don't have money for the vet you still need to take him in, they'll work out a payment plan for you. And yes, they can help him. Get him in there ASAP.
