Try an hour of stretching, yoga and meditation in that order. Follow it up with a hobby or activity which you love doing or would do anytime of the day. Throw in some music, dance, sleep intermittently with adequate measures and u ll be ready for the 7 day shift.

You should buy the new brain training game for the nintendo DS, called 'more' brain training. theres a little game on there called 'bug zapper', its a relaxation game. (its pretty mindnumbing, yet engaging)
I work 5 on/2 off nightshifts, this game for the last 3 weeks has been the key to getting to sleep, usually within 15 minutes of lying down. Try it, it really works.

Take up Yoga if you have the time, and learn deep breathing exercises as it's the quickest way to unwind.

Yoga, like a few others have said. It is awesome. It will teach you to let your mind go blank. Best way possible to deal with stress. You can also do it during work.

i know feeling unfortunately I (to my shame) use alcohol too. Could you go for a walk and inhale deeply or if near a beach scream on beach when no one is around - ave done this!!! I know all abt stress and can help others but not myself. Use complimentary therapies when you can - they work too. That is why I say I can help others but not me.

I think it's different for everybody. But find something that you like to do and do it. Wht works for me is going to my bedroom, turning on some calm music, making sure the lighting is right (candles), making sure it smells good (insense or air freshner), make the temperature just right and just sit and reflect, or read something light.
