To be able to afford to live in the urban areas like Edmonton and Calgary (or the resort areas like Banff and Jasper) the teacher has to make a salray that is commensurate with the cost of living.

Therefore salaries are somewhat higher than elsewhere in the country.

The cost of living is very high in Alberta. Especially in Calgary, Fort MacMurray and surrounding areas. When your housing prices are exceedingly high you need to be able to pay your teachers (or any workers) a wage that will help them afford that or everyone will just quit and leave the province.

There are some oil fields in Alberta,a very rich province of Canada.

They pay more to employees than other province.
