Hi, we just spent 4 yrs there. My husband is AF. Well I didn't like it when we first got there. It grew on me though. I miss it. I wasn't crazy about Killeen. The town isn't growing as fast as the population so at times it can be a mess on the roads. Especially at the end of the duty day. We lived in Harker Heights. Love it. My kids went to Mountain View Elm.( my daughter went there her 5th grade yr.) Oh my gosh their first elementary school they went to just slipped my mind! Anyway, they both went to Union Grove Middle school. For the most part I was happy with it, but there are always a few things that bug you. It was better than Eastern Hills. I just heard there were a lot of discipline problems there. But they did just build a new police station right next door to it.
Pediatrics on Post is pretty good but I call the pharmacy "THE DUNGEN" You will be there for awhile! Um, MI Casa SU Casa is a family owned Mexican restaurant that is really good. It is on the right hand side of 98( side street) in Harker Heights going toward the Post. In Temple which is about 20 minutes from Harker Heights is Clem McCleska( something like that) Just ask about Clem's. It is very good! They have wonderful brisket. Good ribs and make their own sausage.
Waco is an hr away and has a good mall. The mall in Temple is ok. The best shopping is in Austin. There are several malls there. We went mostly to Barton Creek.( They have Macy's Dillard's, Nordstroms , AE, Abercrombie, ect) There is a container store, and whole foods market. Crate and Barrel. There are many activities to do as well. Round Rock is a nice place on your way to Austin. Lots of restaurants. In Harker Heights there is Dana Peak Park. It is down past Harker Heights HS( which is a good school also Ellison is good) um email me if there is anything else you would like to know. I will try to answer.

Was never stationed there but have driven thru the area and spent time in Dallas, San Antonio, Houston and lots in El Paso. El Paso is not a weekend trip but Juarez can be fun. There is a Chech Bakery in West out on the 35 going towards Dallas that was different, ***** Last Resort on The Riverwalk in SA is interesting( wear a bra, you are supposed to get drunk, take it off and pin it to the ceiling) and of all places to find good sushi was Dallas. Mr Sushi, think it was on Beltline Rd to the north of town.

You can always go to Crawford and shoot protesters with a sling shot.

There's no climate.
You have to drive EVERYWHERE.
Clothing Sales always has a long line.
It's too crowded.
Someone's always deployed.
Free-range cattle on the road.
Soldiers are forced to clean up the housing developments, teaching the inhabitants to live in their own filth.
Since you deploy, you barely have a job while you're in garrison, but have to be there all day, anyway (dependent on unit).

I was only there for ten months before I deployed, so I either can't remember or never had any likes.
