The supposed sin of Onan was coitus interruptus not masturbation. Regular orgasms are the single most effective prophylactic against prostate cancer. All young men should be encouraged to take the hands-on approach to beating prostate cancer from an early age and keep it going throughout life. If you don't have a partner with whom to do it regularly then doing it by yourself has exactly the same effect.

No god is going to design a pleasurable and fun way to beat a serious disease and then make it a sin to do it. Jesus was a young man and supposedly unmarried, he would have done it himself. It is only sanctimonious god-botherers who object to people enjoying themselves - and look how many of of them die of cancer. Remember, a w*nk a day keeps the surgeon away.

The opinion of Buddha is very negative.
Buddha says that celibacy is the starting point for
making any progress towards divinity.
Celibacy is the way ,
without it the human being
is same as an
animal.

Buddha says : STOP
Man , stop, look & think
what you are doing.
Does it lead you to liberation?
Does it lead you to awakening?
Leave all that which doesn't.

Man, you have a choice.
you can think,
you can be told,
you can hear & understand,
you can read and comprehend,
you can look and see.

You have lived through many rebirths.
Every time you did this :
Pleasing the flesh.
Pleasing the organs.
And every time you have died
in incomprehension
and misunderstanding
as prevalent in the world.

Try at least once ,
Live in purity
and if it is found
that it is wrong ,
discard it.
But we dont do it
and remain in darkness
and assume that we have
tried.

The answer lies in the individuals mind, not in their hands. It is personal choice. What God thinks is not always accurately portrayed in the writings of men. It produces no ill effects, and harms no one else, so. Its a lot safer to ones body than sex with another person these days, so...
If masturbation was such an issue for God, then our arms would be much shorter.
I would rather have the whole congregation masturbating, than To Have One preist molesting children, As long as we keep hearing about preists and kids almost every day, I think the church needs to keep it's big mouth shut!

I don't think God cares all that much. It's a harmless substitution for sex outside marriage, which is a sin.

Also, for the record, I'm a fully practicing female Muslim teenager.

I couldn't imagine that a genuinely benevolent God would care about masturbation.

However, Organized Religion (TM) is generally against masturbation, homosexuality, oral sex, and any other kink that doesn't lead to procreation. That's because Organized Religion (TM) is just a tool of the ruling classes and they want to guarantee an endless supply of cheap labor and cannon fodder...

Well obviously he thinks its ok because he made us capable of doing it.. if he thought it was wrong then wouldn't he just make it impossible to self-pleasure?? I don't know and I dont care really I don't think there is a god around to have an opinion on the subject. Personally I see nothing wrong with it, EVERYONE has done it, will do it or does do it.. anyone who says they haven't is a liar...

Masturbation is a completely natural and a healthy behavior observed in many primates.

90% of men and 75% of women reported regular masturbation. The rest are lying, asexual, or unable to achieve orgasm. :-)

Edit: As for "spilling seed" as some quote, it's a handy fact that women only ovulate once a month, and masturbation does not affect it.

How can I be serious about such a ridiculous question???!!!

Masturbation is natural and inevitable. It doesn't lead to unwanted pregnancies or sexually-transmitted diseases. Why on earth should we make young people feel guilty about it?
