No, not really.
I do not honor the old on account of their age. I honor people on the account of their actions and their wisdom.
Old people have had longer to do worthwhile things and have had the opportunity to become wiser than they were in their youth.
that does not mean that they all did those things, or learned from their experiences.
Should we honor some racist fool just because he is from the previous generation? Should we honor Pol Pot, Slobodan Milosevic, Fidel Castro, or the memories of Stalin and Pinochet just because they are, or were, old?
