We are under the Law of Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8-1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8-2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

*** pe chap. 24 p. 206 Are We Under the Ten Commandments? ***

LAWS THAT APPLY TO CHRISTIANS

Christians are not under the Ten Commandments. Jesus introduced a “new covenant,” based on the better sacrifice of his own perfect human life. Christians come under this new covenant and are subject to Christian laws. (Hebrews 8:7-13; Luke 22:20) Many of these laws have been taken from the law of Moses. the Law covenant came to an end, but many of its basic laws and principles were adopted into Christianity.

11 Note how this is the case as you read the Ten Commandments and then compare them with the following Christian laws and teachings: “It is Jehovah your God you must worship.” (Matthew 4:10; 1 Corinthians 10:20-22) “Guard yourselves from idols.” (1 John 5:21; 1 Corinthians 10:14) “Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified [not treated in a worthless way].” (Matthew 6:9) “Children, be obedient to your parents.” (Ephesians 6:1, 2) And the Bible makes clear that murder, committing adultery, stealing, lying and coveting are also against the laws for Christians.—Revelation 21:8; 1 John 3:15; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7; Ephesians 4:25, 28; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Luke 12:15; Colossians 3:5.So Christians are urged to “fulfill the law of the Christ,” rather than to keep the Ten Commandments. (Galatians 6:2) Jesus gave many commands and instructions, and by our obeying them we are keeping or fulfilling his law. In particular, Jesus stressed the importance of love. (Matthew 22:36-40; John 13:34, 35) Yes, to love others is a Christian law. It is the basis of the entire law of Moses, as the Bible says: “The entire Law stands fulfilled in one saying, namely: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’”—Galatians 5:13, 14; Romans 13:8-10.

The law of sin and death.

"For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:2.

Balla, if you are going to throw out the Ten Commandments, you are rejecting the explicit teaching of Jesus:

Matthew 5:19
Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:17
"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."
"Which ones?" the man inquired.
Jesus replied, " 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'"

See also Mark 10:19ff and Luke 18:20ff.

Paul taught that we are not under the Jewish ceremonial law that dictated circumcision, Saturday worship, and a host of dietary restrictions. But he certainly didn't teach situation ethics. See I Tim 1:8ff:

We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

The law is a good teacher to Christians who imagine it is loving to abort a child or deny food to someone in a coma, or who imagine that homosexual coupling is love and equivalent to marriage.

In an age where every imaginable sin has its advocates, we need a rich understanding of the Ten Commandments more than ever.

Cheers,
Bruce

Christians are not for persecuting any religious sect in this country, and we are not out to create some "theocracy"! This nation WAS founded on Christian principles though! The reason the Judiciary, Legislative, and Executive branches were created separate and counter balance to each other is because with man's fallen nature he is apt to abuse and misuse power! What Christians do want are the religions of evolution and atheism out of the schools and halls of higher learning. Christianity reigned with little problems in this nation up till about the 1940's or so, perhaps to the 1950's until prayer was taken out of school and the religion of atheism took over. Jews lived just fine in this nation up to that point, again with little troubles. The "secular" government as you call it is slowly putting the squeaze on religious freedom of speech, particularly Christians! Your bias against Christians is just oozing from your words! As for homosexuality, it is a sin, or an "abomination" in the eyes of God. That does not mean Christians should want them dead, but that does mean like every other sinner, they need to repent and come out of the sin! Homosexual organizations support NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) which advocates pedophilia, and are several times more likely than heterosexuals to be a pedophile! It's one of the ways they recruit new homosexuals! Homosexuality isn't based on some "gene" any more than any other sin. There's not some gene for adultery or theivery, nor is there a gene for homosexuality! Islamic law says to either kill the infidel or make them a second class citizen. Christianity says to love thy neighbor and pray for those who persecute you. Biblical Christianity has always faced persecution, even from others that have called themselves Christian! Roman Catholicism and Lutheranism have both persecuted Baptists and "fundamentalist" Christianity through the ages, as do Muslims, and as do atheists/communists. I would bet you would be hard pressed to find where Baptists have persecuted anybody!

Not under the law, but under grace, if led of the Spirit.
As for Romans 8:2 Law vs Law it's as Loser vs Loser.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

If you are thinking about the law of love then let it be known the Ten Commandments are based on love for God and love for your neighbors.

The first four deal with our relationship with God and the last six deal with our relationship with our neighbors.

You say the Ten Commandments were fulfilled by Christ. Does that mean we need not keep them? Do we go around killing, committing adultery and stealing? That would be strange.

Let's hear what Jesus instructed His disciples - "If ye love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15)

"If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love." (John 15:10)

Acts 15:28
For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

Acts 15:29
That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

These rules are nothing compared to the two commands of Christ to Love God and to love our fellow man as ourselves.

Love one another as I have loved you.

Only a character from "Brother where art thou" could think it applies to regional civil laws.

Christians are covered under the Law of God and the Law of man. and do you know what is the Law of man? Those are laws enacted by your government for the citizenry to follow as you are governed by the laws of your government.
