Hard to say for sure without knowing exactly what model you have. I'd suggest reading your user's manual and play around with the camera's settings a bit. Also, depending on the environment you are (inside, outside...), you will have to adjust your settings accordingly. No single setting is good for all cases. Go to your local library to see if they carry any books on digital camera.

Before we can give you any advice, we need to know that you feel is wrong with the pictures you've taken. Are they blurry? Too dark or too washed-out? Are the tops of people's heads cut off? Are faces in shadows?

Also, what make and model of camera do you have?

Seriously, if you can give us some more information (or even link us to some sample 'bad' photos) we'll be glad to help.

By the way, we all took tons of bad pictures over the years. That's how we learned from our mistakes!

Find a nice quiet place, fix your favorite beverage, get comfortable and READ & STUDY your Owner's Manual that came with the camera. Go over one feature or setting, practicing it with your camera, until you are competent with it. Then go to the next feature or setting. You have to study your camera just as you would history, math, chemistry, etc.

i was a photographer so let me tell you. do not use flash if u dont have to. flash over exposes the face and is hard light. hard light creates hard shadows and makes it look like the person is sweating cause of the reflection. best light is diffused light..such as clouds or if you were to put a tissue over a light. it balances it out. LIGHT IS EVERYTHING!!!!!! so you always need light. please read the manual. if you were using an slr i can give you tons of tips but it its a cheap point and shoot those r usually full auto which is bad bad bad and i cant stand point and shoot cams!!!
