I think it would depend on the threat they face. However, they don't have a very big armed force, their land isn't extremely valued, their global notoriety is quite low, and they're particularly known for their rather passive approach to everything. So my guess is that their involvement would almost invariably be quite limited.
However, the fact that Canada consists of infinite US entry points via an extremely long, unprotected border, I have no doubts that the United States would use its armed forces to protect Canada from any sort of invasion, just by virtue of the fact that the US would be extremely vulnerable without a secure helmet to its north.

While Canadian involvement would be quite possible, so would her neutrality be.
The most likely scenarios for a world war in the near future involve the USA and allies fighting any of China, Islam and Russia.
Canada could become involved in two ways - either:
1. As a direct US ally if the US were the target of aggression, in which case Canada may tend to support her neighbour.
2. As an ally of Great Britain as in two previous world wars. Although the Imperial jingoism that saw many Canadians sign up in 1914, (my grandfather among them), is unlikely to be repeated, there are still strong Commonwealth ties that could easily see Canada fighting to defend Britain (but not British interests abroad).
Although Canada's armed forces are not large, they are of a very high standard - and in both previous world wars the Canadians established themselves as being, along with ANZACs, the best troops on the allied side.

Canada is always dragged in, to a small extent.
Depends on the war though. With the current state of affairs, we aren't going to see anything along the lines of one or two countries trying to take over the world, as in WWII.
I foresee many regional conflicts as the oil supply dwindles, and sea levels rise, especially in 3rd world countries.
My big worry would be China. They have the military that is capable of waging serious warfare, and as oil becomes less available, they will likely reach out (in all the wrong ways) to obtain supplies.
Canada would likely not get involved with that, not in a large way...although all countries will need to move to alternative energy sources soon to help avoid this type of trouble.
