When you open a document in Microsoft Office Word 2007 that was created in Microsoft Office Word 2003, Word 2002, or Word 2000, Compatibility Mode is turned on, and you see Compatibility Mode in the title bar of the document window. Compatibility Mode ensures that no new or enhanced features in Office Word 2007 are available while you are working with a document, so that people who are using previous versions of Word will have full editing capabilities.

When you open a Word 97–2003 document in Office Word 2007, Compatibility Mode is turned on, and you see Compatibility Mode in the title bar of the document window. In Compatibility Mode, you can open, edit, and save Word 97–2003 documents but you won't be able to use any of the new Office Word 2007 features.

Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Convert.
In the Microsoft Office Word dialog box, click OK.
Do one of the following:
To replace the original file with a file in the Office Word 2007 file format, click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Save.
To save the original document in its original file format and create another document in the Office Word 2007 file format, click the Microsoft Office Button, click Save As, and then type a new name for the file.

I hope it helps!

Yes there is. I had the same problem. When you save you document in MS 2007click on Save As, you should see a scroll bar in the Save As display box asking the type of file. Click on the scroll button, and it will display MS Word 1997-2003 click on this type and save the document this way. It automatically converts and you will be able to open it on Word 2003. Make sure you always choose this option when saving on MS 2007 or your work will not come up.

Software is usually backward mobile. Naturally, newer programs have additions and advancements not found in older programs. You could try saving your Word2003 file as a text file. Formatting will be lost, but you should be able to open it in Word2007 and reformat it there.

Open the 2003 file
cl File
cl Save As
at the bottom, for filetype, click the down arrow and select text

Yes you can. You will need to open the 2007 document go save as and choose at the bottom it will say something like office 2007 document change it to 2003 document.

You will need to go to: https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en
and download the plugin so it will save as 2003
