Should it be folded a certain way or put in a particular place? My husband thinks the money should not be folded, but instead be spread out. I think that looks weird.

I normally just put it under a cup in the middle of the table. If you put it towards the end of a table anyone walking by can just take it. And if you spread it all out it is like saying 'look at how much I gave.'

It is OK to fold it; but not necessary. The money should be a little more toward the center of the table. It is OK to anchor the money under a plate or saucer but don't "hide" it there. The busboy removes the plates from the table, not the waitress.

Having worked as a waiter to get through college I have this advice. Put the tip UNDER a cup or plate. More tips are stolen from waiters by the unethical than you would imagine. A tip placed under something is not in plain sight and therefore unavailable for those with sticky fingers to steal.

I put the tip in the center of the table with the ends of the bills under a glass. That way it won't blow away and people walking by can't take it very easily.

I hope it flat and lay in under a saucer so it doesn't blow off the table. I don't think it should be folded either, but not necessary to spread it out.

personally i never leave tips on tables but rather hand it to the wait staff personally as i have seen small children steal tips from tables that way im assured they get the tips rather than some runny snot nosed 2-3 year old

i hand the tip to the server themselves... that way you know the server got it... customers steal tips, so do coworkers, and some places make all the table tips go into a jar and divided, in most of these places if you hand the tip directly to the server, then they can keep it...

The proper way is to put it inside the check presenter.
If they don't have one where you are dining, then place it near the inner end of the table, usually unfolded.

Who cares if it's folded or not!? as long as you leave a tip & you put it on top of the table like every body else. GEEZ! so picky.

Don't you and your husband have anything else to worry about.
